If you are new to quilting sometimes the best way to start is by using pre-cut fabric bundles. There are many variety of bundles of fabrics and some can be confusing…but be confused no more! And although each fabric company has a different name for their pre-cuts here are the general definitions.
Fat Quarter-Fat quarters are pre-cut pieces of cotton fabric. They are taken from one yard of fabric, cut in half lengthwise, and then in half width-wise. The dimensions are approximately 18″ x 22″ (46cm x 56cm).
Fat Eighth-Fat Eighths measure 9″ x 21″, rather than the typical one-eighth yard cut of 4.5″ x 42″.
10″ Stacker- 10″ squares that are pre-cut by the manufacturer
5″ Stacker- 5″ squares that are pre-cut by the manufacturer
Fabric Roll- A fabric roll is a whole collection of fabric strips that measure 2½” x 44″.

Thanks for this post. I am fairly new to quilting, just over a year, and love to find new patterns to try. I’ve already done the coin quilt, so next up is the charm quilt. Thanks again.

Thank you for this list and eye-candy photos! I’ve pinned several of them and now want to hide away in my sewing room for days!

Thank you for including my quilt “Layers of Charm” in your list, but unfortunately the pattern is not mine but is a free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop called Layers of Charm that I was part of a blog hop for. The direct link to the free pattern is http://www.fatquartershop.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/LayersofCharm.pdf
