Today I get to participate in my friend Marissa’s annual Happy Harry Potter Series over on fantabulous blog: Rae Gun Ramblings
I love the Harry Potter series…but here is a little known fact about me….I don’t love Harry Potter himself.
Actually I don’t really like him at all. (He’s so whiny and indecisive…much like a totally unrelated main character…Luke Skywalker…but that’s another story.)
So who is my favorite character? Well…my top three favorite are:
Neville Longbottom, Ron Weasley, and Severus Snape. (I have a thing for supporting characters…they are much more interesting…)
Much more interesting.
The idea of a person who would remain loyal to the memory and ideals of someone who was kind to him….even while being lured towards a darker path…I have to love that….because I am the kind of person who still believes that kindness can change hearts…and the world.
And so for that reason (and many others) Severus is one of my favorite characters.
Recently the actor Alan Rickman, the man who brought Severus Snape to life, passed away and when he did I ran across this quote:
And it touched something in my own heart…..he loved what he did.
And I love what I do. When I think about myself at 80 years old sitting in my rocking chair I can imagine myself still telling crazy stories and stitching together crazy quilts….and my family will say to me “After all this time?” and I will say, “Always.”
And so for Marissa’s Harry Potter Series I made myself a book mark:
A book mark that reminds me to be kind to others…and to do what I love….no matter how many times I’ve done it…no matter how long I’ve done it….always.
Thanks Marissa for inviting me to be a part of your party!

Always.

I agree with your opinion of Snape. I’ve always wished that JK Rowling could have done more with Malfoy’s character revealing the goodness in him. I also love the characters of Tom and Mary on Downton Abbey for the same reasons.

Neville is one of my favorites too. He is just so relatable. And makes me feel better about myself. If someone who has struggled so much to find himself could be so loyal, strong, and determined than I can be too!
