Every Friday night our family tries to do “movie night.” Although it is getting harder the older everyone gets, we still try to make it a tradition to have pizza, treats and a favorite family movie….and sometimes a huge sleepover in the basement. I love that it’s a good way to unwind from the week and when everything is dark and still I love to peek around and find everyone cuddled in a homemade quilt, snuggled warm and cozy. I finished this quilt a while ago to add to our “family movie night” quilt pile and the boys love it. I think that it is one of new favorites.
While I was making it I took a few pictures and make a pdf printable pattern so you could make one too!
Building Blocks Quilt Pattern Materials:
1/4-1/2 yard of 9-10 different fabrics
1 yard of sashing fabric
3/4 yard for quilt binding
4 yards for backing (or less if you’d like to piece a scrappy back)
The finished Building Blocks Quilt Pattern (with sashings) is approximately 64 by 64 inches big so it is a great sized cuddle quilt.
The quilt itself is made up from two types of blocks—a nine patch which is a basic quilting block and then is offset with another bigger block to make is a simple quilt to make.

And one more of the this boy that I adore…he is getting so big so fast and I just want to freeze him right now. The other day he starts yelling from the back of the car, “MOM, oh my, MOM, oh my….MOM I really, really did lose a tooth!” (He’s been bluffing loosing a tooth for a few months now. “You did?” I said, “Let me see.” And as he holds out his hand he has what appears to be a very yellow tooth in his hand…..but neither he or I could figure out where he lost it from. When we stop I go to the back seat and find him with an orange….turns out it wasn’t a tooth at all but an orange seed. And we laughed and giggled the whole way home—and that is the reason I love 5 year olds.
Happy quilting!
