Quilt Block of the Month:The Ribbon Star Quilt Block Tutorial

 

If you have been following along with our Quilt Block of the Month Series, you will know that we are having fun this year with basic quilt blocks. We are currently on block #3 of our Quilt Block of the Month series (The Ribbon Star Quilt Block Tutorial) and this month we are doing the Ribbon Star Quilt Block.  If you are just joining us you can find Quilt Block #1 HERE and Quilt Block #2 HERE.

Here is March’s block, The Ribbon Star Block Tutorial, which is another easy quilt block that is made up of Half-Square triangles—one of the most basic quilt blocks.

The Ribbon Star Quilt Block Tutorial

Directions for making the block:

*Cut 4 white squares measuring 5″ by 5″

*Cut 6 coral squares measuring 5″ by 5″

*Cut 2 light pink squares measuring 5″ by 5″

*Cut 4 more white squares measuring 4.5″ by 4.5″

 

Step 1: Make 8 white and coral half-square triangle blocks. If you need a good video tutorial for making half-square triangles go HERE. Trim each block to 4.5″ by 4.5″ inches square.

 

Step 2: Make 4 half-square triangle blocks out of the coral and light pink. Trim the HST blocks down to  4.5″ by 4.5″ inches square.

Step 3: Next, lay out your quilt block according to the map below, adding the four white 4.5″ by 4.5″ in the four corners.

You are done!

This is such a fun quilt block to sew….and comes together super quickly and is such a versatile quilt block.  And since March is National Quilting Month you can make a whole quilt of ribbon stars now! See you next month for our next block 🙂
