IKEA’s Best Sewing Room Items!
The bulk of the storage pieces, work areas, and furniture in both mine and Elizabeth’s sewing rooms comes from IKEA.
Without our planning we both gravitated toward the practical pieces, clean lines, and affordable prices that we we found there. And so today we are showing you our list of what we think are the best IKEA items for your sewing room.
So here they are…in no particular order:
Each of us have several of these shelving units which are perfect for storing nicely folded fabric on as well as storage bins full of pattern and notions.
This is great solution if you have an area large enough for a desk to set up your sewing area but can’t dedicate an entire room to it! The desk serves as both a sewing and ironing table while the shelves are perfect for storage. I have one in my upstairs sewing space and I looooove it.
Elizabeth has one of these carts in her room and loves it. She has it filled with tools that she often uses and can move it around with her from the sewing machine to the serger to the quilter. It’s awesome…I want to go get one for myself!!
#4. Klimpen/Finnvard Drafting Table:
Each of us have one of these tables and they are WONDERFUL! With storage shelves built into the legs and the capabiltiy to adjust the height (mine sits as high as a kitchen counter top) these make perfect cutting, drafting and ironing stations.
I have 4 of these shelves in my room. I love them because they are light enough for me to move around, they hold an enormous amount of fabric, I like the galvanized steal and for $15 a piece I can’t beat the price!
This chair is my favorite sewing chair…but my kids are ALWAYS stealing it to use at their desks. And for $15 I should just buy one for each of them so we don’t have to fight over it anymore.
#7. Fintorp Rail:
These rails are easy to install and have several different styles of hooks that you can hang from them which are perfect to hang tools from! (Plus they are super cute.)
Now….just because we only listed 7 items doesn’t mean that we only have exactly 7 IKEA items in our sewing room that we love. Tomorrow I will show you my “real” sewing room and a few of my other favorite IKEA items that have been turned into well used sewing room gear.

I have the cube shelves, the cart and the drafting table in my craft room. I also have a different IKEA chair at my table that is turquoise to match the cart. Love them all.

I want the cart so bad! I’m envious of Elizabeth’s! And a matching chair sounds so cute!!!

if you put 3 of the 6 x 2 cube shelves together on the floor you can make a giant cutting table with room for fabric rolls underneath 😉

I absolutely love my Linnmon table top with Alex drawers. It was by far the best addition to my sewing room!

Pluggis bins are great for carrying kits to workshops, and storing the pieces of a UFO together.

I’ve had two Finnvard drafting tables, each with different size tops, for about 5 years now. I use one for cutting and one for sewing.

Is Kallax sturdy when the machine is running? I’m considering this, but unsure if there will be a lot of shaking. Thank
