I have a new go-to baby gift that I have been making for friends and family. And luckily for me, they are fast and easy but they are so cute to swaddle newborns in for a photo. And now you can make some swaddle blankets too!
DIY Pom Pom Swaddle Blanket Tutorial
Materials:
Cotton Gauze Fabric–1 1/4 yards
Serger (or zig zag stitch on your sewing machine)
5 yards of mini pom pom trim
And here’s how you make them!
Step 4: Stitch the pom poms around the perimeter of the blanket right on the inside of the zig zag or serging line and you are done!
And you are done! And then you will want to make about 10 or 20 more….because you find pom pom trim in so many cute colors!
Happy Sewing!

A newborn in the family really is a precious time, isn’t it? I have a sister-in-law who took up sewing classes when she learned she was expecting. I guess the effort to make miniature clothes and accessories are really fun especially kids are always wearing something fun, bright and quirky – these details are always nice to work with!

So you don’t need to turn and hem an edge?
Elizabeth says
I didn’t, but you can. The trim covers up all the serging or zig zagged edges….

Thanks!

I have been looking for a tutorial for a swaddle blanket with pom pom trim- I haven’t been able to find one any where. And you made it so easy! Thank you!

Super cute idea! 🙂

Just a hint for serging the rounded corners, if you trace the curved line on the corners and then use the serger blade to trim as you serge, you’ll get a better look. It will lay nicer and you’ll get a prettier continuous seam on the edge.

Are you sewing the Pom Pom trim onto the right side or wrong side of your fabric? Also, what kind of foot are you using? I tried to make one but none of my presser feet worked well.
Jocelyn says
how well does the pom pom hold up in the washing machine? I am dying to make some of these swaddles for my soon to arrive baby but am nervous the pom pom will fall apart or dye the fabric or something. Let me know your experience, please and thank you!

I don’t have any of the baby blankets as they have all been given away but I do have a swim cover up that I made for my daughter out of double gauze and mini pom poms….and the pom poms are perfect after many a washes!!!

Where do you find your pom pom trim? I bought some to do this, but the edge of it is so narrow that I can’t sew it on right.
Thanks!

I would also love to know what store you found this pom trim at? I tried this tutorial with pom from Joanns and it was kind of a disaster. The trim was soon narrow thatI had a hard time. Is it from a website?

I’m having a hard time finding decent Pom Pom trim like this with cute colours. I’d love to know where you are finding the Pom Pom trim. Thank you.

I have made several of these. I use the all-purpose foot to attach the pompoms with and I adjust the zigzag for attaching the pompoms with to go over the base of the pompom trim so just adjust your zigzag width
