Hello!
Today we get to talk about two things: #1. The amount of fabric needed to complete all 12 quilt blocks of the month AND #2. The 3 blocks that we chose not to include in the quilt but will still be part of the sew along. (Why the 3 “bonus blocks”? Read yesterdays post for a full explanation!)
There are several ways to sew along with our quilt block of the month:
Option #1. Purchase a kit.
Kits are available in our shop. They cost $58.50 and each one includes all the fabric needed to make all 12 blocks plus the borders and sashing for the quilt top (6.75 yards of fabric), a cutting guide, and block maps. (The price of shipping is covered in the cost of the kit so there are no additional costs.)
Option #2. Purchase your own fabric.
To make all 12 blocks plus the quilt top you will need the following amounts of each color:
White: 3 yards
Red: 1 yard
Mint: 3/4 yard
Mustard: 3/4 yard
Light Pink: 1/2 yard
Dark Grey: 1/2 yard
Light Grey: 1/4 yard
Option #3. Pull from your stash
Each month we will list the fabric amount needed to make the block of the month. Each month you could do your block with completely different fabrics to match your own tastes and styles and have a true sampler quilt by the end of the year!
So there you have it! Three ways to join in with the Quilt Block of the Month Sew Along.
Now, onto the last 3 blocks that we haven’t shown yet. And they are…
The Heart Block, The Flying Geese Block and The X Marks the Spot Block
Each one of these blocks can be substituted for another block in the quilt or can be turned into a coordinating throw pillow that we will be showing you how to make.
Alrighty then….you have your options for 2016 Quilt Block of the Month, a list of fabric requirements and you’ve seen the final 3 blocks. All that is left to do is get started sewing! (Which we will do tomorrow with January’s quilt block of the month…see you then!)

I looked in your shop but didn’t see the quilt kit….is it not added yet? I am waiting excitedly to start this project with you all! 🙂
Maddie Naylor says
If we want to add the three additional blocks to the quilt top do we need to buy more white? And if so how much?
Elizabeth says
Sorry it’s there now!
Elizabeth says
I would buy an extra yard of white….because you will need extra sashings. My guess is you will have extra but I tend to err on the extra side that you could use for another project 😉
Stephanie says
Will you sell/ship to Canada? If so, I would imagine you would need to charge some shipping….how much would that be? Even with our awful exchange rate at present, I bet your kit is less expensive than the $17 per meter for Kona solids my local quilt shop charges…..
thanks!
Elizabeth says
Hi Stephanie,
We can ship to Canada…I do think the shipping will be a bit more. I usually just have people pay for the kit in the shop and then I send a separate invoice for the additional shipping. We only charge exactly what it costs.

Just came upon your site and I see Block #1. But where would I find block #2 for February?
Pegan says
What is the block size and the finished size of the quilt?
Joanne Hawk says
I don’t find the block for August – Twin Crosses.
Thank you,
Joanne Hawk
