Have you ever bought a new necklace, wore it once and then caught it on something and broke it? Yep…that was me a few weeks ago. But this time I was determined to fix it! Luckily it was the back jump ring that broke and although I don’t know a lot about jewelry I do know about jump rings…and they are super easy to fix. So, the next time you have a broken necklace, you might try the jump ring trick to put it back together.
Here’s how you do it…
My necklace broke at the top opposite where the lobster clasp was.
Here is what the jump rings look like. You can buy them in packs of just the rings or you can buy them in a pack with the lobster clasps as well.
How to Fix a Broken Necklace Tutorial
Step 1: Using a small pair of pliers (or whatever tool works for you 😉 open the jump ring.
Step 2: Now, place your necklace chain(s) into the jump ring.
Step 3: Using the jewelry pliers close the jump ring. (Sorry, I don’t have a better picture of closing the jump ring better…it was a bit hard to take a picture with one hand and try to manipulate the pliers as well.)
Now you can close your lobster clasp again…and your necklace is fixed! I have used this same technique on many necklaces and even on some of them when the jump ring is bigger than the chain and you still can’t tell once the necklace is put back together.
