Now the question of the day is, “What do you find yourself sewing most often?” Which isn’t always the same as “What is your favorite thing to sew?”
I ask this question today because this week is all about ragged projects here on the blog…and I love them…and there was a time when I was doing craft fairs when I was sewing about 15 ragged tote bags a day. Now, at that time I would have without a doubt said that I find myself sewing ragged tote bags most often.
But after I was done loving on ragged totes, I started in on aprons. Aprons GALORE!!!!
Next it was appliqued dish towels…and so on and so forth.
Except when I am expecting…then it’s nothing but baby blankets, bibs, burp cloths etc….no matter what else is going on!!!
I think that every season of life lends itself to one particular kind of sewing whether it be mending, quilting, or sewing garments. And I have to admit that I am enjoying my way through all these seasons of sewing. Stitching up both projects that I sew most and those that are my most favorite to sew.
For me, right now, my favorite thing to sew are quilts. However, the thing I sew most often are skirts for my girls. Not very may days go by before I am making a new skirt for one of my girls. And while I do love that (a lot)…and it is what I find myself currently sewing most often, right now I am dreaming of diving into Christmas quilt making. However, I need to savor the skirt making for as long as I can because I know that one day far too soon they will suddenly become too cool for my handiwork.
So how about you? What are you sewing currently sewing most often? And is it the same as your favorite thing to sew?

I would like the pattern to this ragged tote bag. Where can I find it? All I find on your site is the 4 square. I’m sewing handicapped, so I need step by step instructions. I probably have the sense to make the 4 square into the nine square, but really, that would take thinking and really, that’s a lot of work. So, if you don’t have step by step, for this adorable one on the picture, then maybe, just maybe, I’ll give it a shot, but let’s be honest, probably not!!!!! Also, I would love that material that was used also!!!! All the patterns look like they were made to go together and it’s so cute….Ok, so maybe I should just ask you to sew it up for me too!!!! Hey, what a great idea!!!!!! Afterall, finding my sewing machine, getting it set up and then trying to get the stupid bobbin to load correctly is enough to make me say….NEVERMIND!!!! Wow, talked myself right out of this project!!! 🙂

I find myself sewing kids’ pants/shorts. Seems that they constantly grow out of them. The minute I feel that I have caught up, they have a growth spurt. Its by far my least favorite thing to do since they have to wear a uniform to school so there isn’t much creative leeway. But it gives me joy when they reach for mamma made shorts over store bought ones.

I’m currently sewing quilt the most. And I’m about to go on a bit of a bag kick too! Which are both my favourite things to sew 🙂 What I should be sewing – the hems on my too-long pants 😉

Oh yes, I have thought about this so often. I mostly sew for others, my 4 boys, my hubby, gifts for my mom or sisters. But, hands down, my favorite things to sew are clothes for girls, with ruffles and details galore! I get to do it once or twice a year and send a package my nieces overseas. Otherwise, it is mostly masculine sewing around here. 🙂
