The Day has finally come!!!
The day we get to announce prize winners for those who were kind enough to sew along with us for Skirting the Issue but before we do…
I just want to give you my heartfelt thank you. Every year when we begin Skirting the Issue I worry that no one will participate and then every year when the photos, emails, and packages start coming in I am overwhelmed with your kindness.
It’s the packages that really get me. When I hold the items that you’ve made suddenly I feel like we’ve met. Those names that I see on Facebook or commenting on the blog become very real, personal friends as I hold in my hands what you have made. And some of you that have sent in packages each year…I swear I could pick out a garment you’ve made from a pile of handmade items. Each of your stitching, fabric choices, and styles are as unique as you are. And every year I savor seeing your handiwork. Elizabeth and I say all the time those that sew are some of the kindest people on the planet. And it’s true.
This year Elizabeth and I were able to donate the skirts that were sent to us to five different locations to be distributed to girls in need. And that’s not all because so many of you were able to donate your skirts to local foster care closets and charities in your area, which is fabulous!!!! All together we were all able to donate 1,107 items to girls in need.
1,107 items!!!
We really were hoping to have this be our first year where we reached the 1,000 mark and we did it!!! Thank you so much to all of you. I can’t believe we did it!
And now….onto the “prizes”.
For every skirt that was sewn a name was put into our drawing bowl to win a gift provided by one of our awesome sponsors. So this morning, with the bowl over flowing Grace (my 7 year old) drew out the names for the prize winners. So if you sewed one skirt or ten look to see if you are one of the winners listed below!
