Throughout the month of September to focus on Teach the One 2 Sew I am giving sewing lessons to my kids. And today’s project was a sample that I made up that we can sew together and make some quilted blankets for the nieces for Christmas. ย I think they will be the perfect gift and they will use up lots of scraps from the scrap bin. And they are a good introduction to sewing straight(ish) lines ๐ ย I am going to let the kids do all the quilted lines and then I will put them together and put the bindings on.
Are you ready to get started?
Step #1: Cut 2 pieces of fabric and 1 piece of batting 14 inches by 18 inches tall.
Step #2: Cut 2 pieces of fabric and 1 piece of batting 14 inches by 16 inches tall.
Step #3: Take the first 3 pieces of fabrics and batting and lay them out according to the following diagram.
Step #4: Quilt vertical lines down the “quilt sandwich” 1 inches apart.
Step #5: Repeat the previous step with your pocket fabrics and batting and quilt lines horizontally.
Step # 6: Now take a circle ruler (or a bowl) and cut all the corners to round them.
Step #7: Now take your front pocket piece and add the binding to the top to make a nice finished edge.
Step #8: Lastly, bind all the edges of your doll quilt.
HERE is a quilt binding tutorial if you need one.
And you are done!!! ย And just so you know they work perfectly for stuffed animals too ๐
