Recently Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores contacted us to see if we would like to try out their new Square by Design Fabrics that are exclusive to their stores. And trying out a new type of fabric is always fun…so we joined in. The fabric is actual square panels (in the home dec fabrics) that you can use in so many sew and no-sew projects. I chose the flag one because I wanted some new 4th of July decorations for my living room and came up with two pillows that I made super fast (I LOVE that about this product…most of the work is done for you). Although after I made both of them I realized that they fit right in in Aaron’s room so I think they will have a permanent year-round home…which is fantastic.
Here’s how to make one if you need a last-minute 4th of July Flag Pillow:
*DIY FLAG PILLOW*
Materials:
*1 Square by Design Panel
*2/3 yard of home decor fabric for your pillow backs (I chose a large star print that is 40% off this week–score!)
*1 20″ by 20″ inch down pillow form (I love the down ones, but you can use any you like).
And here’s the steps to make it….
Step 1: Cut your Square by Design Panel into a 20 x 20 inch square
Step 2: Cut two rectangles 15″ by 20″ inches out of the home decor fabric (these will be your pillow backs).
Step 3: Fold up one of the 20″ edges 1″ on your pillow back rectangle and stitch down. Repeat for second pillow back.
Step 4: Lay your square by design face up. Lay your two pillow backs face down overlapping (RST) on top of the panel with both of the sewn edges toward the middle. Pin around all the edges.
Step 5: Stitch around the perimeter of the pillow cover using 1/2 inch seam allowance.
Step 6: Clip the corners of your pillow cover and then turn right side out.
Step 7: Push corners out with a point turner and stuff with your down pillow.
