For over a year now Baby Ruth (my 3 year old) has been obsessed with the movie Annie. The original 1981 Carol Burnett, Albert Finney, Tim Curry version that I grew up watching. She would watch it all day every day if we would let her. So for Halloween last year there was absolutely no question about who she would be. It was a given.
And the best part was that her 3 year old vision was exactly the same as my old mom lady vision! We both knew that the pre-Daddy Warbucks Annie was who she needed to be. I made her dress from a pattern that Elizabeth and I have used over and over and over again along with some vintage fabric that had been given to me a few months prior by a friend. And then we finished off the whole outfit with a sweater purchased from Old Navy.
Ruth loved this outfit. And wore it quite a bit. (So much in fact that you can see a big chocolate stain on the front of the pinafore!)
She wore it to church, to school, and on days spent at home. It became more than just a Halloween costume (a fact that I loved). And when she wasn’t wearing her dress and pinafore she was wearing her red Annie cardigan with any other clothing combination.
I tried really hard to replicate Annie’s dress as closely as I could and I was happy with the results…but was even happier with the way Ruth loved her costume.
Now…in the post title I promised to tell you a secret…so here it is…this fall we will be releasing our first pattern…actually an entire line of patterns and this dress may just happen to be one of those patterns! (And we are really excited about it!!!) So keep watching for official announcements with all the details coming up at the end of the summer.

My mom made this outfit for me when the original movie came out; I loved it dearly. There were McCalls patterns available at the time for each of the outfits in the movie.
I love your interpretation!
