Decorating is not one of my strong-suits but I have been working the last year to make my kiddos’ rooms fun for each of them, and I thought that even though they aren’t “done” I would do a couple of posts about my works in progress for home decorating on a budget. First up we are looking at the oldest’s new teen boy room. I guess I shouldn’t say new because most of the things were re-used or re-furbished from other rooms, but I am liking the direction it is going….and I tend to keep things simple anyway.
The linen headboard I ordered from Wayfair when it was on sale and I had a coupon code as well. It is a navy blue linen and I love it! It’s perfect for a teen boy’s room. The snowshoes above the bed were taken out of my parents’ garage (they did give their permission) and I think they are a great FREE piece of art for above the bed. The two blue pillows and the red lobster pillow were from Home Goods and were in his room before the move. The gray coverlet was from our previous guest room and was just moved into this room.
The lamps were from our old family room and I spray painted them white and got new linen shades for….so they were recycled from other parts of the house as well as the nightstands. They are actually filing cabinets that used to be in the office once-upon-a-time but they are still in pretty good shape so they were moved up to use for nightstands. The bedskirt still needs some help….I would love to find some graphic print like the pillows to staple on….but that hasn’t happened yet 😉
The rug was a Target clearance rug that is actually an outdoor rug. I originally wanted a blue and white striped rug, but then I found this one on clearance for $20 and decided it would be a great place holder (the rug I wanted was over $500–yikes!). And the quilt for the bed is this Arrow quilt I made a year or so ago. I still can’t decide on window treatments, but the window isn’t centered and takes up that whole wall on the left so I might just leave them open and bright…and for now it’s just great. The desk and the chair that are peeking out on the right hand side are Ikea and Home Goods and they were both moved from the old house….but I do so love those director’s chairs. They are so fun and can fold up and out of the way if needs be.
Next week I will show you the loft….and that room needs help. I will completely need opinions!

Thanks for sharing part of your home. You ladies do so much sewing and I always wonder what your homes are like. I think the room looks great. Love the colors and use of great deals!

I love how you brought the navy into the room. Now the biggest challenge will be having your son keep it clean 🙂
