Did you know that April is Grilled Cheese Sandwich month?
Well, it is. And we need to celebrate the grilled cheese sandwich! It has always been one of my very favorite sandwiches 😉
I have been using grilled cheese sandwiches for 30 minute meals lately….because they are simple, fast and who doesn’t love a golden browned cheese sandwich? We can’t resist. And while they are not the healthiest meal available I know that everyone will eat them (and I put veggies on the table with them!).
I usually end up making plain grilled cheese for the kiddos but lately my husband and I have been making some yummy gourmet ones. This turkey, bacon, avocado grilled cheese has quickly become my new absolute favorite! It is delicious and is based on one of my very favorite salads that I turned into a grilled cheese sandwich.
Turkey, Bacon Avocado Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients:
Fresh avocados, cooked bacon, bread, butter, sliced turkey breast, salt and pepper to taste
Here’s how I make them:
1. Spread butter on bread (room temp butter is best) butter side down pan that is on medium/low. (I prefer low and slow to melt all the cheesy goodness.)
2. Layer shredded cheese, turkey, avocado slices, bacon (add a pinch of salt and pepper if you want) and more cheese on your buttered bread.
3. Then top with another slice of buttered bread.
4. It is going to take longer than you think to cook. It’s okay, give that shredded cheese time to melt. And you are going to want to turn up the heat. DO NOT DO IT. Your bread will be brown and your cheese will still be not melty.
5. Enjoy!
