There are many things I love to sew and dresses for girls are still at the top of that list.
And my favorite patterns….well…vintage patterns will always have my heart.
So yesterday I thoroughly enjoyed myself as I sewed up this vintage 1971 Simplicity pattern.
For this pattern I used a light weight stretch denim paired with some white quilting cotton for the collar.
The notes that the previous owner of the pattern had written said that this collar wasn’t her favorite because it didn’t lay flat. (I love it when I find notes written on the patterns.) And…after sewing up this pattern I might have to agree. Although I think with just a few changes it would become a favorite!
I love the scallops!
Actually I’ve made a collar similar to this one from another vintage pattern. In fact, I even used the same fabric!!! (You can find it here in the post: Tips for Sewing Smooth Curves and Crisp Corners.)
I love white on white fabric almost as much as I do vintage patterns and crazy collars….

Oh my goodness, are you anywhere near Cincinnati, OH? 90% of my collection of patterns are from the 60s and 70s! I use pieces from several patterns to get the look I want for my granddaughters. I have some patterns that are even older, so old, they had no markings but holes to marke where you cut!

I love this! I particularly love the collar. I love the ever so subtle print on it. I’ve been wanting to make a dress similar to this for myself. This has inspired me to actually make good on my plans. Nice job!
