Actually the name may be a bit of a misnomer…we don’t really camp out, with tents and sleeping bags in the great outdoors underneath the stars. But, we do camp out in the family room next to the fireplace. All of us, every Friday night. Here’s what happens: Around 8:00 p.m. we all gather our blankets, pillows, foam mats, and sleeping bags from around the house and pile them on the floor. Then we grab some snacks (chips, popcorn, licorice, the usual) and snuggle in for a night of munching, giggles, and movie watching.
We have used XFINITY® Internet for, well, forever and we love it. I use it every day to write this blog (as well as for checking Facebook and pinning ideas on Pinterest), my kids use it to check on homework from school, and my husband uses it to communicate with his students. XFINITY’s® in-home WiFi is great because we can use it anywhere in our house. Which means when we are all working we can find our own quiet space to get our jobs done. But then at times, like on Friday nights, we can all enjoy it together. I know as time goes on it won’t just be things like homework that separate us from spending time together as a family. I am watching other interests pulling my kids in different directions. Track practice, gymnastics, and friends….all good things but I know that we are just at the tip of the iceberg. Every time I turn around my kids have grown up again. I want to freeze time. It’s all going by way too fast. So for right now I am doing my best to make the most of our time we have together. And that means the Friday night camp outs will continue. Every Friday…no matter what…because I know that one day, all too soon, dates and driving will replace movies with mom and dad. And when that day comes I don’t want to regret not making the most of the time that I had with these wonderful little people.
