We have had the sickies around here….bad colds and crazy coughs. But during the coughs I have still been trying to find inside activities to keep them busy. I feel like we need these in the winter and then again in the summer when it gets so hot we can’t go outside in the middle of the day. And my mom answer to a lot of days like this—playdough! Playdough is great for all ages and after about 30 minutes of playing just with the playdough I bring out the playdough toys and we get another half an hour of play out of it. It’s a win win for all of us.
Today we decided to add in another fun thing to our playdough—-sparkle glitter. And I tell you what, it really sparkles. It is awesome!!!
This playdough would be so perfect for a St. Patrick’s party, or a birthday favor, or even a preschool class party—they could play with it during the party and then take it home at the end.
Here is the recipe I used for our Rainbow Sparkle Playdough.
RAINBOW SPARKLE PLAYDOUGH
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 cup of water
1/3 cup of salt
2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
food coloring
2 tablespoons of clear glitter
Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan on low and stir with a wooden spoon until playdough starts to get thick and stick around the spoon. Add food coloring and glitter until you have the color and sparkle effect that you want. Turn out onto a countertop and knead until cool (be careful, it’s hot). Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
And then enjoy your sparkle, sparkly playdough–it is hours of fun!
If you do whip some up…I would love to see it. Tag us on instagram at @simplesimonandco!

My mom would make homemade play dough for us to! We never tried glitter though…totally saving for future reference. Thanks!

Ah, new to the blogging world, I just learned about vertical images 😉 I need to make some new playdough for my class. We did a pirate unit and made gold glitter playdough and they loved it. We did plastic jewels and beads in it and they hunted for treasure. Then they’d make clues for a treasure hunt and hide it somewhere in the class. Lots of fun.
