I actually was working on this quilt at the end of last summer, but it slipped through the cracks when school started and the craziness also started. But it feels good to get another work in progress completed and done!
And I am pretty sure this is the quilt that started liZ and I on a plus quilt craze. I think we have done 6 or 7 since this one (counting some baby quilts we’ll show you soon). They are a fast quilt top to make but I love the way they showcase fabrics.
Speaking of the fabrics, I bought a fat quarter bundle of Leah Duncan’s Meadow early last summer and used it to make the quilt with a scrap or two thrown in because I think I was one (or two) pluses short for the size I wanted to make. It’s a bigger sized quilt….60 by 70 which is my perfect size for a movie cuddling quilt.
The quilt back is a soft chambray that I found at a local store that I absolutely love. I was unsure about how the chambray would look, but I really do love it. And because I am a fan of coin quilts, I use them a lot on backs because it uses up the scraps from the front and secondly because I am cheap and could get away with one 70 inch piece for the back since the chambray was 54 inches. The coin strip was 6.5 inches wide and it was perfect for the back. HERE is a tutorial of how I do the coin rows for quilts if you need one.
Melissa quilted the whole quilt with linking squares and I think the quilting turned out perfectly. The binding is some navy blued quilting cotton I had as a remnant piece from another quilt.
There is a tutorial coming up on Wednesday on Riley Blake’s blog that will show you how to do a plus quilt and over here I will be showing you how I love to bind quilts….so if you are looking for a pattern for this one….head back here on Wednesday!
Any fun sewing or quilting plans for this week?

This is lovely. The fabrics are so bright and airy looking. I love the textured look of the chambray. As for my quilting plans, I’m off to take a class on paper piecing to make a compass rose block for a quilt I’m working on. I also just sent a quilt top off to the long arm quilter, I’ve got a baby quilt sandwiched and ready to go. Just need some time 🙂
