First up on the fall sewing list was to finish a fall swing coat that I actually started last year. I sewed up the jacket and the lining at the end of last summer, but then when I tried them on to fit the length realized that they were both WAYYYY too big and put them away to try again this year. The fit is still a little big for this year, but hopefully that means that she will get this year and next year Spring and Fall out of it, so that’s good news.
The pattern is a vintage raglan sleeve swing coat and when I went to look for it to take a picture I can not find it. I even searched down to my pattern size 3-4 but it might be misplaced somewhere in the pattern bins because it isn’t there either. I will keep searching and update the post if I find the pattern to add the company and pattern number.
Two regrets on this particular pattern. The only thing I remember about when I sewed it up the first time is that I didn’t have enough fabric to match the sleeves and front perfectly. I think I need to start buying more quantities of fabric 😉 I remember when a yard was plenty to make something out of for her….then I moved to 1.5 yards…and now I am buying 2 yard segments (although this must have been only 1.5 yards). Hopefully the jacket has a busy enough print that I will be the only one bugged by it ;).
The coat is lined and I hand-hemmed the bottom with the lining and the sleeves as well. And I do so love the style with the raglan sleeves, the oversized collar and of course that it is navy blue and white.
Hannie even loves it which is a plus when sewing for kids, so I am hoping it will get worn often. Next up….denim (are you sewing along with Project Run and Play too)! I will show you on Friday 😉

I love this one! You did a great job, and I totally didn’t notice the fabric not matching up (until you mentioned it, of course). It looks spectacular on your girl!
