Last Friday over on Facebook I was saying that I was thinking about Halloween movies to watch with my kids…and after I posted that I kept thinking and thinking about good Halloween movies to watch with my family.
So tonight my husband and I were sitting around talking about the movies we watched growing up around Halloween time and the movies that our kids like now and I put together this list of some Halloween movies that I can watch with my family over the next few weeks.
And with 31 movies on our list there is one for every night in the month of October!!!
The list is a work in progress…but it’s what we’ve come up with so far…also, as you read this remember that movies should be selected so as to be appropriate for the age, maturity, etc, etc, of your viewers….

We may be missing some. But it’s a start.
In other Halloween related news we are going to try to have a “Black and White” themed Halloween here at our house this year. So the plan is to get old movies to watch with the family after trick or treating…like the original King Kong, Godzilla, The Invisible Man, or The Mummy…and then eat black and white foods….like nachos with mozzarella cheese and black beans and then have black cows for desert!
It sounds like fun to us…hopefully the kids will like it to!

I actually have one to contribute!!! I recall it being odd but good (and Halloweeny type things are not my cup-o-tea). It is Coraline! My youngest said she didn’t care for it but I recall it being good…and my older daughter agrees with me. Give it a try!

Great list. I’m always looking for Halloween movie ideas for this month. Ghostbusters is a favorite around my house.

How about Hocus Pocus? I liked that one.

A really good old black and white one is Arsenic and Old Lace, the Cary Grant version. It is pretty funny, and one I try to watch every year.
Another one, but a more “grown up/girls night” movie is Practical Magic.
Thanks for sharing this list!

Coraline, The Nightmare before Christmas, Monsters, Inc., Labyrinth, and Spookly the Square Pumpkin are favorites around here. My oldest is six, so we’re still very much into animated movies. They tend lose interest in live action things very quickly still–Labyrinth is something of an exception. They’ve been begging for Dark Crystal, too, but I only have it on VHS, and my VCR died.

We always have a ‘Binary Bash’ on 10/10 featuring black & white food, movies, clothes, etc. This started on 10/10/10, and we’ve continued it since then. Silly, but fun.

It’s a great movie!

The Worst Witch and Teen Witch!

You should add the movies Halloween Town 1, 2 and 3 and for older family members add Signs and What Lies Beneath for some great scares.

Has anyone said Beetlejuice? Or Hotel Transylvania. Also, Corpse Bride.
