Being an elementary teacher was fun. And class party days–well, I ate them up. They were just so fun for the kids that I really, really enjoyed them. And while now I am staying at home with my kiddos, I just counted up the other day and I have been a Room Mom for eight years plus all the years I taught before that! That’s a lot of class parties.
And the funny part about that is that I never plan to be a Room Mom. Every year at Parent Night when we are filling out paperwork I write the same thing. “Please let someone else have a turn, but if you need help, I am always willing.” And every year I get a call. I am just glad that it hasn’t always been for the same kid–because that could get kind of awkward. But I really do loveclass parties….I think they are fun and they get me in the holiday spirit for whatever holiday we are celebrating that day;) And thankfully I have always found enough parents to help with all the centers, so I usually only end up doing about 1 or 2 per year.
The other great thing about going to all the parties, is that I get to see the creative and FUN ideas that other moms come up with for parties! And even before pinterest came along, moms were doing the best crafts, games, treats and crafts around. So, I thought I would share some examples of things that I have done and/or seen throughout my years of elementary school parties.
Mind you these are not my pictures….because I would have never thought to take pictures way back in the day. But I can attest that each and every one of these will work because I have either done them or been there to see them done 😉 And all of them are using store bought ingredients which has always been a must at my kids’ school.

Oh, if only our kids were allowed to have Halloween class parties anymore. Alas, they were sacrificed at the altar of P.C. several years back, so no parties, no costumes, no fun for the kids at school. At least our church still throws a big party for the kids so they can wear their costumes more than once!

Some of my fondest memories were at Halloween class parties….glad that your kids still get to go to a church party 😉

We are still allowed to have class parties but no homemade goodies at all. Kind of stinky!

We aren’t allowed homemade goodies either…so all of these can be made with store-bought supplies—which can be sometimes hard to find 😉

It’s a tradition in my family to make pumpkin shaped sugar cookies, frost them orange, and then make faces with M&Ms and candy corn. This year, I’m also going to decorate some homemade rice krispie treats, because we have a kid at church that has severe allergies to eggs and dairy. And I also do “monster” cupcakes. Vanilla cupcakes filled with “blood” (seedless raspberry jam) and then frosted with a grass tip and candy eyes. They’re pretty popular lol
