Today we are interrupting our scheduled Skirting the Issue skirt tutorials for an OLFA giveaway!
This year OLFA is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the invention of the rotary cutter. These must have tools were developed by OLFA in 1979 and forever changed the world of quilting. (Really, I can’t imagine NOT having my rotary cutters…can you? They are like a MUST have item for me.)
And today OLFA is giving one of our readers one of their rotary cutters and a small cutting mat! Hooray!
To enter to win all you need to do is leave us a comment telling us one of your favorite sewing/quilting tools.
Good Luck!
One of my favorite tools is my seam gauge – seems to be constantly in use!
I love my small seam ripper it is the best!
Thanks!
as much as I like my rotary cutter, my favorite tool of all time has to be my tube turners!
I love my pattern weights! They’ve made my least favorite part of sewing a little less unbearable!
I am very new to the world of sewing so I would have to say my favorite tool is my sewing machine 🙂 it’s SO nice not having to hand stitch anything I need sewn!
My favorite sewing tool is my needle threader on my sewing machine. My eyes aren’t what they used to be and it saves tons of frustration
My favorite tool is probably my small rotary cutter. I use it for everything and it is great for getting around small curves.
I love my sewing machine foot that helps me line up my pieces to guarantee a 1/4″ seam allowance! It definitely helps me sew more precisely with my quilts!
It is my sewing machine with my scissors a close second.
I love my scissors – without it I cannot do anything!!
I would have to say it is my sewing machine. If I had to do it by hand, it would never get done. Thank you!
Seam ripper!
One sewing too I couldn’t do without is my even feed foot! Comes in handy for me day after day!
Currently, my favorite sewing tool is the sewing machine my grandma gave me. It has all the bells and whistles!
My rotary cutter (not an Olfa unfortunately) and my little gauge ruler! Thanks for the chance to win a small rotary cutter- I’ve been itching to get one of these!
Unfortunately, my seam ripper is the one sewing tool I couldn’t live without!
Pretty much my rotary cutter!
I think my tailor’s chalk is my favorite; I use it all the time
I have to pick just one? I do love my 15 year old Bernina.
I love my rotary cutter, I only started using one last year, but I don’t think I could do without one now!
My fave sewing tool is wearing a pair of small scissors on a ribbon around my neck.
Magnetic pincushion!
Aside from the must-haves, I am really grateful for the cutting mat that my dh splurged on for me. I love it! (My most used sewing tool remains as ever – my seam ripper.)
Sharp scissors. I recently accidentally tried cutting through a pin so now my scissors aren’t very happy. I took them for granted and now I appreciate sharp scissors so much more.
It’s a tie between my pinking shears and my tube turners!!!
As a beginner, I am finding my seam ripper is my favorite thing to have around. 🙂
I really love my Olfa rotary cutter!
My rotary cutter and wonder clips!
I love my new little seam ripper. Sadly I’ve had to use it more than I like to admit lately 🙁 I got a new mat and learned that cheaper is not better when it comes to cutting mats.
My iron!
I am really thankful for my seam ripper 🙂
I love my sewing machine. If fabric counts as a “tool”, then fabric!!!
While it’s not technically a seeing tool, I cannot see without freezer paper! Love it!!
*sew
One of my favorites is my seam ripper – because I use it so often! LOL!
My favorite accessory is my machinegers.
My favorite tool is my little seam clippers/binder thingys. I also LOVE my rotary cutter when the blade is sharp and grumble at it when it is dull and snags through the fabric instead of cuts it. Thanks Olfa and S S and Co!
Needles! What would sewing be without a needle?
rotary cutter for sure!
I’ve recently been able to get back into sewing. So my sewing machine is definitely my favorite tool right now. I can see how a rotary cutter could quickly become my new fave, though. Thanks for the giveaway!!
I can not even imagine sewing as I do now without a rotary cutter!! One of the first things I teach everyone whom I have helped learn to sew (after they learn to clip ALL the threads!!!) is how to use a rotary cutter.
I heart my cutting mat for measuring, lining up fabric, laying out quilt pieces, etc.
My favorite tool is my nice, sharp pair of sewing scissors my mom gave me. I’ve (very) new to sewing and having a good pair of scissors makes a huge difference! I’d love to win the rotary cutter and mat, as I’ve never tried a cutter and think it could help me a lot!
I would definitely say my 1950 vintage Singer sewing machine! I love it!
My most favorite tool is my sewing machine (wink), but after that it is a bodkin – it makes putting elastic, cord, ribbon through casings super easy. It’s also great for putting cords back in hoodies and sweatpants when I forget to tie them before washing!
My rotary cutter is my fav tool! It helps speed things along so I can get to the sewing! 🙂
Judging by how often I use it, my seam ripper must be my favorite tool.
I think my rotary cutter’s probably my favourite tool right now (aside from my sewing machine).
I love my little rotary cutter…perfect for getting in and out of tight spaces with ease!
Love my rotary cutter & mat but my seam ripper is a necessary tool
My current favorite tool is my free motion quilting foot, but it changes with every project. 🙂 I certainly can’t imagine life without a rotary cutter.
I LOVE my Clover Clips and a bamboo skewer for turning fabric.
Just got a magnetic seam guide. I LOVE it. And wonder clips are new to me, too. Life-altering! 🙂
I have two favorites. A bodkin and a sewing gauge. Use those all the time!
I love my bias tape tool. Much faster and I haven’t burnt my fingers nearly as often. 🙂
I love the sewing machine I got in college. It has gotten years of use.
my sewing machine is my favorite tool. The rest are helpful, but I love sitting down and watching it all come together!
Jess
My favorite are my pinking shears among my cutting tools.
Unfortunately, my seam ripper. Although, I can’t imagine trying to undo seams with scissors or by hand, so I am thankful for it
Probably my newly (re) discovered double needle.
My rotary cutter! Without it, I can’t imagine sewing/quilting with any accuracy. I have been looking for a smaller rotary cutter for a while now. Thanks for the opportunity!
My seam ripper is certainly the most used tool unfortunately.
Rotary cutter and rulers.
ONE favorite? That’s so hard to do! Well, my 45mm Olfa rotary cutter has to be #1! Excellent quality and versatile use.
my machine and my rowenta iron.
I love my rotary cutter.
I have to go with my sewing machine too. It was given to me and has provided my kids with many cute and original clothes that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. I’d say my scissors but they need to be sharpened so bad right now and I keep forgetting to get it done, so when I use them I get angry and want to throw them. Watch out!!
My favorite tool is my brain. I am self-taught with no real-life mentors, so I’ve either thought through problems to find a
cobblefix, figured out where to look to find more information, or made it all up on the fly. The last one is my favorite. 🙂I am new to sewing, but recently updgraded to a computerized sewing machine with an automatic threader. This is hands down the best thing I’ve ever used. I am amazed by the speed and love having so many different stitches. As for smaller tools, definitely the ergonomic seam ripper I bought. We are great friends!
My rotating cutting mat!
My quilting friends!
My favorite tools are my rotary cutter and mat. They save so much time and are closely followed by my 1/4 inch foot for my sewing machine
Seam ripper 😀
I haven’t done a lot of sewing but recently purchased my first rotary cutter and mat. Loving both of them!!
My favorite is my 18mm rotary cutter & my rotating cutting mat. I paper piece a lot, & these are my best friends.
Not my favorite, but my most-used tool is my seam ripper 😛
Seam ripper is one I use a lot and don’t know what I would do without 🙂
I absolutely love my Olfactory cutting mat. I would LOVE the rotary cutter to go with it 🙂
Olfa…..not olfactory. Lol!
I would have to say I love my seam ripper, mostly because I am new to the sewing world, also my Olfactory cutting mat!!
I inherited my Grandma Sydney’s serger and love it so much!
pins! without them i’d never sew a straight line!
I really love my rotary cutters and use them constantly, but my absolute favorite is my Gingher applique scissors.
the mason jar sewing kit that i made! it keeps all my must-haves nearby, including the pins that help me sew in a straight line!
Definitely the seam ripper – I always say the best part of sewing is that you can (usually) rip out your mistakes and start over!!
I love my Olfa rotating cutting mat. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love my seam ripper! Probably because I use it so much. I’m new to sewing and I seem to make quite a few mistakes! Oh the learning curve.
I can’t believe I ever sewed without a rotary cutter!
I was going to say my scissors cause I like to collect assorted sizes and styles. But then I think it would have to be a fresh rotary blade! Nothing like using a fresh blade!
After my rotary cutter, my favorite quilting/sewing tool is my revolving rotary cutting mat I love it
I have a really pretty seam ripper with a hand carved handle. I hope I don’t have to use it often, but when I do, at least it’s pretty!
Okay, this sounds ridiculous but someone gifted high quality fabric scissors to me and they are SO amazing. I mean, they cut through everything so effortlessly. It’s incredible and I can’t believe I thought fabric scissors were just a marketing ploy for more money. Ha!
Seam ripper even though sometimes I am annoyed when using it. After all in sewing there are no mistakes only learning experiences.
I must say, my rotary cutter is right up at the top of the list of my favorite sewing tools. My little, sharp pointed scissors, my seam gauge, my extra long glass head pins – and so many new ones I haven’t tried yet, are right behind it.
my favorite sewing tool is my seam ripper
I’m still a newbie, so my seam ripper and I are quite close, but my very favorite has to be the intense shears I finally invested in. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as slicing through your fabric like butter!
my nice sewing shears are my favorite!
Oh my rotary cutter is definitely a fave…and a huge timesaver! I could totally use a spare one! 🙂
My favorite sewing tool is my new dressmakers dummy – it makes making clothes for me so much easier. I was eyeing off one of these recently wondering if I should try it. Can’t imagine doing all the cutting without scissors.
I love the clover clips. They’re so handy.
I am new to sewing and have to say my sewing machine and seam ripper are my favorites so far. Have been wanting to get a rotary cutter! Fingers crossed! Thank you.
I’m still a novice, so my sewing machine!
I love my sharp scissors! They are kept far away from little hands.
Yay! I’ve been wanting this rotary cutter! I would have to say my favorite tool is a sharp pair of (left-handed!) scissors.
My favorite tool must be my scissors, nothing like the feel and sound of a good pair of fabric scissors cutting through some nice fabric
Love my needle threader on my machine!!!
I love my serger. I don’t know how I ever lived without it.
Is an ironing board a tool, LOL?
Last Christmas my husband bought me a new one… it is extra wide with an iron rest and a broad, sturdy base. No more worries about my board tipping over!
And it is wide enough to make a good surface for pinning quilt pieces and sashing.
I love my ironing board…. I could never go back to my old one.
Eh that’s tough… Love my rotary cutter, seam ripper, and a good pair of scissors. But I use my measuring tape a lot.
Would have to be my Singer
stainless steel scissors my
mom gave me! Work so well.
Carla from Utah
I could not function without my rotary blade. It speeds up my pattern cutting so much!
one of my favorite tools is the seam ripper…everyone makes mistakes!
I love my walking foot on my machine.
Love my rotary cutter, wonder clips, and ginghers.
My favorite too is the internet! OMG! So many great ideas, and so much help for beginners like me!
My cutting mat!! What would I do without it? Olfa, of course!
My fav is my sewing machine – I received a Bernina for my wedding and I adore it!
My favorite tool right now is my 15 inch square ruler. I am making two t-shirt quilts right now for a friends sons who passed away from cancer. I couldn’t have cut out the 60 squares to make the quilts with it and my old rotary cutter.
My favourite tool is my magnetic pin holder. Love it!
Easy! Walking foot!
My magnet cutting board and serious-don’t-mess-around heavy duty magnets!
Needle threader for my machine as old eyes don’t do that very well.
My rotary cutter and those awesome long pins with the flat flower on the end!
My favorite thing are pins. They keep e erything exactly in the place I want it too.
Sewing machine wins; however, I love my tools!
I couldn’t survive without my olfa rotary cutters! I use them for cutting quilt stuff as well as garment patterns.
Love my gingher scissors!
My rotary cutter!
So hard to pick just one. I have a set of cutters, mats and rulers both in my sewing area and another in my paper crafting area. But my favorite sewing tool is my sewing machine. My mom bought it in 1959 or 1960 and it was top of the line. It has sewn many outfits, quilts, mending and all of those other sewing projects that need to be done. Her sewing machine is the one thing that I wanted of hers when she passed. Now she looks over my shoulder when I’m sitting there.
I love my seam ripper. It’s a life saver!
I would have to say my Clover red clips. I love to EPP and they are such a Heaven send. Thanks for the giveaway.
Vicki
My seam ripper!
My favorite quilting tool would be a decent rotary cutter…..mine is dull…….so I will have to say for now, its a good sharp scissors.
my favorite is my pinking rotary cutter!!
I don’t own a cutter or mat (gasp!). Maybe this comment will change that.
WALKING FOOT.
! 🙂
Since my eyesight started to deteriorate last year, I’ve discovered that needle threaders are a lifesaver
I love my 6 3/4″ clear ruler and thread nippers. Can’t sew without them!
Seam Ripper!!! ……..
My favorite tool is my cutting mat. It has been put through the ringer and it would be absolutely wonderful to win a new mat and a new cutter. I have an older Olfa cutter from the mid 80’s and the old girl has been a real workhorse. Keeping my fingers crossed.
My portable needle threader! I couldn’t thread a needle without it.
I love a good rotary cutter…I’ve never had one. My mother in law has quite a few Olfas in her sewing room…4 hours away doesn’t help.
My most used tool would have to be my seam ripper…we have a love hate relationship.
A short bamboo skewer is my “must have” whenever I am sewing, but without a rotary cutter I would not be a quilter!! Both are equally important.
Outside of my cutter and mat, it would have to be my seam ripper as my favorite. I can’t live without it.
My sewing machine of course!
My favorite tool by far is my seam ripper that I have to use constantly to fix all the mistakes I make.
Actually, my seam-rippers. They are my little forgiveness tools. Everyone I make a mistake, they are they to help me start anew!
My acrylic ruler. I couldn’t cut straight without it.
My seam ripper is by far my little bestie.
I use my cutting mat for everything. A place to tape patterns together, to lay out something to pin it, everything. Followed closely by a seam ripper and some small scissors on a ribbon around my neck. Best tip someone ever shared with me!
I use my seam ripper more than I would like. Something I need to make is some pattern weights.
My bamboo handled Clover seam ripper, so handy!
My favorite tool, if I have one, is my pinking shears bacause I make so many garments for the grandkids. A new rotary cutter with a pinking blade would be heavenly, though, and great for my hand/wrist pain! Thanks for all you do.
I love a good pair or really sharp scissors. It makes such a difference!
I love my nice sharp fabric scissors
I love my bodkin for pulling elastic through waistbands.
Besides the basics, my favorite little luxury tool is a bias-tape maker. SO much faster and more even than me doing it by hand!
My sewing machine! Makes sewing everything so much easier.
I love my Olfa rotary cutters! Another love of my notions is my 6 1/2″x2 1/2″ ruler. It’s a great size to have in my hand sewing pouch.
Thank you for a super giveaway an a chance to win. Oh, I’m also a new follower ;-D
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
I made a skinny pincushion to fit in front of my machine, very handy.
Honestly, I think it’s my scissors!
I love a great cutting mat!
My sewing machine, given to me by my husbands grandma. The push I needed to start sewing.
Love my extra large 35 x 70 cutting mat.
A good rotary cutter. I love my Olfa. I just need a new blade…
Shears!
I love my bias tape maker!
Seam ripper. It’s a love/hate relationship. 🙂
One of my favorites tools is this blog! I am always inspired coming here- always learning new things. I so appreciate all you do!
Musts for me are not only a sharp and safe rotary cutter, but also a good cutting mat and transparent quilt templates! I’ll have to say my Bernina Activa sewing machine is my first necessity, everything else is on the “next important” list. 😉
My favorite tool is my square up ruler. It makes sewing blocks the correct size so much easier!
Besides my sewing machine I love all of my Olfa cutters. I can’t imagine going back to cutting everything out with scissors
As a beginning (& already totally obsessed) sewist, one of my favorite tools is the little silicone color strips that serve as a guide to help you get you allowances more consistent. Simple & brilliant. That & my giant, full yard cutting mat…couldn’t make skirt quite so easily w/out either!
Thanks for the giveaway! I love pinking shears, and wish I had some of those, too!
I would say my rotary cutter or scissors, I would love a smaller one didn’t even think of that!
I love my seam guide. Helps me achieve straighter lines in my sewing!
I love sewing and quilting! Cutting – not so much. Years if using scissors. The rotary cutter is the tool that totally makes it all ok – definitely my favorite!!
A good rotary cutter & large cutting mat makes sewing with knits (my favorite) easier.
I think I bought my sewing machine because it had a needle threader!
Sewing machine is Number 1, followed by board, cutter and rulers, and sadly, my seam ripper
I fine my point turner very useful.
My sewline chalk pencil!
My favorite tool is my iron. My husband has his own iron so he won’t touch my sewing iron.
My favorite sewing tool is a sharp cutting instrument. I would probably not be sewing much without spring handled scissors and rotary cutters. Both changed my life and the way I sew. Thanks!
My favorite tool is my seam ripper. On some projects, I use it just as much as my sewing machine!
My three most important sewing tools would have to be my sewing machine, my rotary cutter and my scissors, but my favorite personal tool would have to be the awl I keep next to the sewing machine. I learned about it from Margaret Islander’s videos and reach for it to hold and manipulate my sewing lines. It’s great for feeding multiple layers of fabric and binding under the presser foot.
I can honestly say that my favorite sewing/quilting tool is a sharp rotary cutter. Makes the project so much easier and cuts are clean and even.
I would hate to do without a rotary cutter, ruler and mat. Can’t make pretty fabric art without doing some great cutting first. Congrats Olfa!
I love all my tools but right now my favorite one is my magnifier, lighted seam ripper. It is a blessing for tired eyes and poor lighting.
Seam ripper!
I have so many sewing notions I love, but I really can’t live without my hemostats! They have gotten me through some pretty tough spots, from cleaning my machine to pulling out stitches to threading my serger!
I would have to say my favorite tool is my serger. It has changed the way I tackle projects.
My favorite tool is my measuring tape. I have to shorten all my son’s pants and it is much easier to fit one pair then measure them and mark/cut/pin other pairs so I don’t have to listen to him complain about having do it multiple times.
Thank goodness for seam rippers!
My rotary cutter is my best friend!!!:)
I was taught to quilt by an 84 year old woman who had been quilting since she was 8, and she have me such a love for hand quilting. I was 16 and was embarrassed to tell her that after 5 days of working on a queen size quilt my finger was almost bleeding, she cut of the tip of a leather work glove for a thimble and even after trying all the new and improved thimbles I always go back to my glove tip.
My favorite is my small thread snips. They just make life easier and are a pleasure to use.
My favorite is my rotarty cutter for sure and my cutting mat..Thank you for letting me enter. ..
I can not sew without my seam gauge
My twister tool, it all the different sizes!! And I would be lost without a seam ripper, some days more than others. And I so like my rotary cutter since it saves me so much time..
