I have been doing some Spring sewing lately, because I have a girlie that is growing like a weed. And first on the list was a new Vintagely Modern Skirt, this time in Chambray. Man, oh, man am I loving chambray right now. I want to make some shorts, a shirt dress (for me) and some boys’ things all out of chambray. Good thing I ordered 5 yards of it last summer and never got to it…because I now want to do everything out of it! The only thing I changed on the skirt tutorial above was to add a side-zipper into the side seam. I think it makes for a more grown-up girl look and since I don’t need to keep moving buttons over (just lengthening hems) zippers are fantastic.
We styled the skirt for Winter/Spring with a white-button-down and a dress that I made 2 years ago that still fits but is wayyy to short to wear alone. And I think the outfit came out so cute. I think we need to layer more often. Either that or maybe it is time to refashion that dress into a shirt.
Are you loving any type of fabric for Spring?

That look is so gorgeous! Also I love those shoes – this would be something I would totally wear, very sophisticated!

Where do you buy your chambray? I ordered some last summer but it was linen and it wrinkled terribly and it was darker than this pretty chambray that you used!
Elizabeth says
I bought it last summer when Jo-Ann’s had their chambray for seasonal. It was a great weight of fabric….and was cotton so it doesn’t wrinkle too badly. I keep watching for it to come out again but I haven’t seen it yet. Sorry I am not more help….
Anyone else have any chambray resources?

I just made a dress out of chambray and I love how it looks–until I wash it. I hate ironing, but I think it’s inevitable.

Stephanie,
You can use the tutorial for a women’s one too! Just make sure to add a side zipper….
