Today we get to participate in No Big Dill’s Sew all 26 letters series, and it has been so fun to see what everyone has been making. She has a couple of guest posters a week and then she is sewing all 26 letters of the alphabet. Did you see her P is for Paper Dress?…..wowza. It is gorgeous and really is made out of real paper. Katy really is a master of the sewing universe….
This week she is on V and what is better for V than
VIOLET AND VINTAGE PATTERNS…..
I started with this beauty of a vintage pattern and made the dress version of the cute girlie in the upper right-hand corner.
And here is what it looks like in violet.
I really do love the way it turned out.
I still love those awesome over-sized peter pan collars. They are totally terrific in my humble opinion.
And the invisible zipper in the back. It called for a regular zipper, but I just love invisible zippers so much more so I changed it up. The only other thing I did was add 2.5 inches of length onto the pattern, which I thought was going to be plenty….but it is still pretty shorty-mc-shorten. I think I should have done 4 inches!
And one more final shot.
Have you sewn with any vintage patterns lately?

Great collar! I love the pop of blue accessories too!
Love your interpretation of the V – lovely!
Sew cute! (lol, I amuse myself) I’m making my wedding dress using a vintage pattern – I LOVE IT as it is the first time I have not had to make MAJOR alterations to the pattern due to my body shape being inconvenient. Clearly modern patterns are just not designed for an hourglass, and vintagey ones are – I may never use another modern pattern for me again! (That’s a lie, there’s so many online patterns I’ve got my eye on!)
So beautiful. I love the 1960’s and 70’s shorty mc shorten dresses. I sew them for Wub whenever I get the chance. I love the fabric. From a distance it looks like dandelions but then, no it’s trees. Awesome.
Katy,
I completely feel the same way. I feel like a lot more attention was given to fit and it your numbers match up then the dress will fit!
Thanks Kristi!
Thanks Tone!
Beautiful dress! Being a child of the ’70s I love vintage patterns like this, they remind me of watching my mum make dresses for me when I was little.
I sew agree w/ Helen. My Mom made a LOT of my dresses back in the day & they looked like the one your Beauty is wearing. What I would give to have those dresses still!! Or even just some of the fabric from those days. My Mom used to sew dresses for the missionaries & was always told she could, “make fabric scream” from using every inch of it!! She was SEW GOOD!!!
Oh my WOW I LOVE that fabric. Your girl looks absolutely adorable in that style of dress too.
So cute.
Nicely done.
so perfect. As always. You do good work.
Loving the vintage look…..and the oversized collar: pretty awesome too!!! Beautiful!!
Very nice! I love the shape of the dress. It hangs very nicely. The fabric choice is really pretty. 🙂
Love this Elizabeth! That collar rocks the house!
