Why yes, yes I did totally make myself this t-shirt to wear today.
Well….actually it wasn’t all me…it was a collaborative effort…with myself, Elizabeth, and some guy named Cameron who has a magic beard and embossed business cards.
Here’s the story: Elizabeth and I were invited to a party to a Cricut Explore party. (Which was lovely…they had all my favorite treats…soda, Hi-Chews, popcorn, candy, more soda….) But instead of circulating and hanging out like most normal people do at a party Elizabeth and I parked ourselves in front of a computer and a Cricut and went to town.
The thing is they had rolls and rolls of iron on vinyl that we could play around with…delightful, iron on vinyl with sparkles. (Sparkles I tell you!) And since I am warped and have an entire notebook dedicated to ridiculous t-shirts that I want to make (seriously, an entire notebook) I couldn’t resist getting to work.
And we knew EXACTLY what we wanted to make! I drew these shirts out last February but never had what I needed to make them…until the other night. The new Cricut machines are freaking amazing…with them you can start with a blank canvass and create your own design…which we did…with a little help from Cameron the Cricut guy (who I think was secretly sent to monitor us and make sure we didn’t abscond with their entire supply of iron on materials).
It was so easy to use the machine that we could have even done it without the help (which is saying something…Elizabeth and I + technology = certain disaster). And I’m in love with what we made. My only regret is that we didn’t crank out some more of my iron on ideas before we left.
Dang, those machines are cool…I’ve got to get me one.
They could make all my wildest t-shirt making dreams come true!

Ok…so maybe having wild t-shirt making dreams is a little strange…but everyone’s gotta have a dream….right?

I made a similar shirt with vinyl for my little guy. Similar in that it drew upon the same Bon jovi poetry 😉

I tried making shirts last night with the iron on vinyl and had some trouble. I have the cricut expression (although I ordered the new explore and I’m so excited) but what settings do you use for the glitter vinyl? It cut the regular vinyl fine but not so great on the glitter vinyl…and then it would tear when I was weeding it. Plus any tips on how to iron it on??? I had trouble getting it to stay on the shirt. I went over and over it…with a towel on top, without the towel, just using the tip of the iron…I’m not sure what the problem was. I love the product and it does make super cute shirts (Love yours!!) but it will not work well if it peels up from the shirt.

They turned out great! I hope that you had fun at the party and I can’t wait to see what you create next!

Jennifer,
ACK! I wish I knew how to answer your question….we made our iron on with the Explore (which is freaking awesome…all you do is literally turn the dial to where it says vinyl and it cuts it right….and then if you are doing cardstock you turn it to where it says cardstock….it’s pretty foolproof.)
As for the ironing on—-It does take longer to get it to stick…I used a THIN towel and turned my iron up really hot then I pressed on each area for a good 20 seconds and then went over everything again. This didn’t make everything stick perfectly (some of the edges still wanted to be free) so I let the iron cool a little and then touched the iron along the edges of the iron on (without the towel) to make sure they stuck down tightly…and it worked…and I’ve washed and worn the shirt and it’s totally worked.
Hope any of these answers help.
