I have been dreaming of Spring and shift dresses and my girlie has been dreaming of the “perfect pink” lately (she loves colors!) so we teamed up at the fabric store. She picked out a perfect pink cotton sateen and I picked out the perfect swiss dot for the top. I used our new bodice pattern (that really is coming out soon–we have been teasing you for too long) for the top and then a-line it out a bit at the bottom for the shift dress part.
(And the shoes for that matter….why can’t I find some like that in my size?)
Here is an up close of the lovely swiss dot bodice that I am craving in fabric right now and I want it in a zillion colors. (Can someone please make swiss dot in lime and lemon shades? Pretty please?????!!!!) And the simple back closure. I intended to do an invisible zipper hidden into the lining (hidden zipper tutorial way back here) but I didn’t have a white zipper. I had every other color but white, and instead of running to the store, I just decided to use my favorite easy back button technique (tutorial here). And I think it was a success…..she loves the pink and I love the “shiftiness” of it. And now one in my size!

Ooh I LOVE Swiss Dot! I made myself a Wiksten Tova out of navy swiss dot and I have some yellow, probably a little darker than the lemon yellow you are looking for 🙂 sitting on my shelf to make my littlest daughter a spring skirt. I wish my daughters would wear shift dresses like this, so pretty, they are still in the twirly dress stage 🙂

Absolutely gorgeous dress.
Wub and are making the perfect pink dress right now too. It’s the most ridiculous, complicated sewing I’ve ever done.
When I’m done I think I’ll make her a beautiful shift dress for Easter.

beautiful dress I’m looking to make my daughters easter dresses and this style is just so simple yet so beautiful and love that it’s not super short like everything in stores nowadays…perhaps you can dye the swiss dot fabric to your choice of color?

The dress is so adorable. I share your passion of swiss dot in those great colors so, if you find any will you please share. (oh, I can just imagine the wonderful outfits)

The dress is adorable, of course, but Merlin’s Pants, the shoes!

I love that your daughter is a little older than my 3 🙂 Because it helps me see how to mature my sewing to keep it age appropriate for them!
Thanks!

If you can’t find the right shade, dye it! I did that for my girls’ Easter dresses last year. It was fun to try.
