Hi everyone! Today we are going to talk about sewing straight lines.
I know some of you are thinking—is she crazy to do a whole day’s post all about sewing straight lines? And yes, yes, I am. Sorry. But it really is a problem that I had when I first started sewing. And maybe some of you do too……
So, I give you now a 5 minute video of me talking about straight lines (ahhhh….I really didn’t think I was talking for 5 minutes). And please don’t judge my voice. Ack…..don’t you hate hearing your own voice recorded?!
(Or you can skip the video and head straight to the straight-line sewing tutorials below it, I won’t be offended 😉 )
And now because you are an expert in sewing straight lines….here are some tutorials that only require straight line sewing!
Simple Spring Skirts, Circle Scarf
Refashioned Paper Bag Dress, Girls’ Ruffled Apron
P.S. We are also up at Riley Blake posting a crazy, easy tutorial that only requires straight line sewing as well…..see you there!!!

Great information! Even if you know how to sew a straight line, this is a fabulous reminder!

Great to watch and I sew alot for my Etsy shop. And I sew straight lines! But always good to refresh and learn a tip or two. One thing I did early on was to find the 5/8″ line on my machine and run my blue painters tape down so that it ran even longer than the line itself. I felt it helped me to stop and take a quick glance and see if what was coming was on line also. And because sometimes that groove can be hard to see. Now I just use my own technique which would only apply to me. 😉
