I don’t know why but I am CONVINCED that every post needs to have a photo.
Every post.
But today…I’ve got nothing…kind of…I do have a link to a photo though…
(If I did it right.)
But I’ll explain that later. Right now we’ve got some business to take care of.
Things have been quiet around here this past few weeks…but behind the scenes we’ve been OUT OF CONTROL.
Ok, maybe not out of control….but busy, busy, busy.
Here is what’s going on:
Saturday night we are finally changing our blog over to the new design that we’ve been toying around with for months and months. And it’s coming with a new, improved, and updated tutorial page!!!! (Which is about time…we haven’t updated our old one for how many years????)
Tuesday Morning (and for the rest of January):
We are kicking off a month long series called “What I Wish I Knew When I Started Sewing”…it will be filled with tutorials, how-to’s, advice from some of our favorite ladies around blog land, and of course a fun giveaway!
February:
We are releasing our first pattern…one that has been tried and tested…made and remade…a million ga-jillion times…and is our favorite thing to make. And with it’s release we will begin releasing the video tutorials that go along with the pattern.
Yes…I said video tutorials…brought to you by the two girls who won’t put their photos on their blog…what can I say? We’re complicated!!! (And if you don’t believe me, just ask our poor husbands!)
March-June:
More videos…more tutorials…more announcements…more Art of Homemaking…and a few mini series.
July:
Our annual Skirting the Issue Event.
So there you have it.
What’s been going on and what’s coming up for the next few months.
And speaking of what’s coming….
I did something shocking today.
I started Simple Simon and Company and Instagram account.
Well, I didn’t…my husbands friend from high school hijacked my phone and set up the account. But either way it’s set up…and we are going to try it out.
Don’t expect any Instagramming miracles…but we are going to try it out.
I put the first photo on their tonight.
It’s a picture of the blog remake in progress.
So if you want to check it out and follow along with us we are at SimpleSimonandCo.
(And after Saturday night there will be a little Instagram button here on the blog as well!)
Alright. That’s enough photoless information for the day.
See you back here soon with a brand new, cleaned up blog!

There is so much I’m excited about in this post {even without a picture}…1. “What I wish I knew when I started sewing” series {I have a feeling I’m going to learn a lot through this series – can’t wait!}, 2. A pattern!??!?! With video tutorials?!?!? {if only it had been pre-PR&P} 3. Instagram!! {Sheesh….gotta go check that out – NOW!}

I am excited for your goals! As someone who is currently teaching themselves to sew (and LOVE blogs like yours!) I would like to read about your thoughts on getting set up. IE- basic equipment. I have a old re-furbished beginner sewing machine that needs replaced. Originally when I started my research I was overwhelmed with too much information and have put machine shopping on the back burner until I can make a better more informed decision on what I really need. Like many things I want to invest in something that will last but also not overspend. Any insights on setting up with equipment would be greatly appreciated!
I am sure I am not alone in this.. feel free to chime in if you are also in my shoes… but I do basic quilt making, home-made costumes for the kids, gift giving (pj’s at christmas time), and simple clothing re-fashioning. I would like to eventually start making some dresses for my daughter and even a few things for myself! Do I need a machine plus a serger? Can I find something that would serve as an all in one? Should I go with a digital machine or a classic mechanical one which seems less likely to need serviced?
Thank you for your blog and all the hard work that you do! All the best to you in 2014!! I can’t wait to see what sewing projects of yours that I can accomplish and publish on my own blog. xo Janalin

Must say Thank you for “What I Wish I Knew When I Started Sewing” as beginner, I learning most of my sewing from reading blogs.

Great questions…..hopefully a lot of them will get answered in the series.
The sewing machine question is always a hard one. I currently have a $300 dollar sewing machine that I love and one that was 10 times that price that I love too….
My advice is always to start out with the best machine you can afford. I really didn’t upgrade to a high-end machine until I had been sewing for about 4 years…and still really love my lower-end guy…..and it’s not worth going into debt for a sewing machine.
(I know that’s not helping……but it’s hard to name brands when every single brand has a great machine.)
Do you have some dealers near you that you could go “test-drive” some machines?

Hooray! Excited to see you on Instagram but I can’t wait for your pattern. I’m awful at drawing my own patterns so I need a go-to bodice! Happy New Year!
