…it’s about what it can become.
I don’t know. Maybe Ruth’s been making me watch the Lorax too many times but I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately:
Where ever you are at this year, right now, this minute…in your finances, organizational skills, relationships, fitness levels, education, hobbies, interests, whatever…it’s ok.
It’s ok.
Because it’s not where you will be tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year at this time.
Maybe today is abysmal…maybe today you are awesome sauce. But either way it won’t stay this way forever.
Many of us at this time of year find ourselves reflecting on the past year…what we accomplished, where we fell short, and what we need to work on during the coming year. And if you are anything like me you are pretty hard on yourself…and spend waaaaaay too much time thinking about everything you should have done better…and beat yourself up for not being better.
I do it every year.
Every single year.
But this year I’m trying to take it a little bit easier on myself.
I’m trying to remember it’s not about what it is right now…it’s about what it can become.
(My cluttered house can become a sanctuary, my slow running times can improve, my savings account can be rebuilt, etc. etc. etc.)
And that thought helps to fill me with hope and comfort.
(Instead of self doubt.)
We have a brand new clean year ahead of us.
365 days to make changes, forge ahead, or meet our potential.
So whether you are feeling overwhelmed by life or by your own superiority (or are somewhere in between) I hope that you’ll join me this year in taking it one day at a time, trying to ease up on yourself, and remembering that it’s not about where we are right now, it’s about where we are headed and who we can become.
If the seed of change has been planted (even if it is only the desire for change) all we have to do is help it grow…
I’m looking forward to this year…and all that will become.
Happy New Year
