Even though it doesn’t look like it, I have been doing some garment sewing recently. And you will probably see more of these things in the future because it sometimes takes awhile behind the scenes to get them up and ready for you. (Especially this time of year…)
So, I am giving you a couple of sneak peeks and one finished garment.
(Yay for the finished one!)
First up is a sneak peek of Hannie’s Christmas dress….
I am in love with brocade this season (you are going to see more soon!) and this one is especially lovely because it has gold and silver metallic threads woven in. I found it on clearance at Joann’s eons ago and I wish I’d bought the whole bolt. I love it so much. And we even braved a 2 minute flat snow-photo-shoot that was loads of fun. Good thing we kept a blanket and a coat on until the last second. I think it was the fastest photo-shoot we have ever done.
And now a finished one!
This tunic is from Hayley’s Norah Dress pattern that she sent over recently. Only I was a sewing late at night and completely put the collar on backwards….but then I kind of loved it so I left it. A bigger peter pan collar is always a cute thing. I should have taken a picture of the square back of the collar—it’s really cute too. (Just know you will have to adjust the neckline….but now you know the collar can be reversed!)
Thanks Hayley!
I think she styled it for school just darling!
And one more sneak peek. For YEARS (really) I have been wanting to make a vintage wool hat (think Dick and Jane books) for winter. And every winter I don’t do it.
Well, not this year. I have been working on a muslin and correcting my pattern and it’s almost done! I am now to the digitizing part and sewing up my final hat.
Here is the wool for the final hat…
a rosy pinkish purple vintage wool that I found at an estate sale. I only have a little over a yard (hence all the muslins I have made) but I am ready to dive in and cut it today. I am planning on lining it with a quilting cotton, but I haven’t decided which one yet.
So, now that you have seen my cutting table, I really want to know what is on yours?
REally.
Inquiring minds want to know….even if they are plans for something after the holidays.
~Elizabeth
On my cutting table is 5 pairs of pjs 2 hooded towels and an art journal. All for Christmas, ack!! I loooove that Norah top! I just finished one for my girlie, such a great pattern!
Love your Norah top! Perfect color! And looking forward to seeing your hat 🙂
Heidi, you are going to be a sewing busy bee this week!
Thanks.
I love the Norah top you made! I have several things on my sewing list and cutting table. I haven’t been able to sew lately but I just finished school so I will be quite busy from now to Christmas! I’m making my 10 yr. old sister’s Christmas dress, some tops for my baby sister, a go-to cape for my mom and maybe something for me. I can’t wait to start on everything!
That is a fantastic way to style the Nora top! right now I’m staring at pattern pieces for a Negroni and hoping it’s not as difficult as it appears. Also need to sew up some fur vests.
Your Christmas gifts are going to be loved….I can tell already from the list!
I do that too…..and the fur vests sound awesome! They seriously sound so warm and cozy….
I am in the midst of my first go at a Christmas red satin type material (just machine washable). I am making my 1 and almost 4 year old matching Christmas dresses. I just put in my first traditional (non henley) sleeve and I love it. I have to add a winter white sheer soft material to the bottom of the sleeves, then attach the skirts (the only part I’m not worried about), and then add buttons I made :)! I’m getting so excited. Hoping to finish them tonight so I can finish other things before the weekend.
On my sewing table is a fabric playhouse for my daughter, with a PVC pipe frame…think card table house but more awesome because you can stand up in it. The only downside is being 36 weeks pregnant and only able to sew in short intervals! It.will.get.done.in.time…at least I keep telling myself that! Other than that–like it’s not enough!–I have some PJ shirts to embellish and a couple of baby items to make. Can’t wait to see your hat!
I think the collar is darling the way you made it! Love the yellow too!
That wool is gorgeous, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the hat you come up with.
The bigger collar on the Norah top is a fun change.
I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the Christmas dress, and I LOVE the photo with snow in Hannie’s hair! =)
YAY for red Christmas dresses….they are going to be beautiful!
Kristy, You are making a ton!!!! Good luck in your last couple of weeks 😉
Thanks Rebecca!
Oh, I so love vintage wool. I wish it were made in more colors like this muted tone today. Thanks for your comment….they really make my day (especially when is deep-scrub cleaning day like today!)
And I need to finish all of these for Christmas… a guitar strap, a belt, a skirt, a Kindle stand, three dresses, and a shirt. Not to mention the things I-wish-I-could-make-but-don’t-have-time-and-money-for: a minky blanket, a hoodie, and a bear.
Ummmm…you win with the longest list! Does a kindle stand make it stand up? I think I need one of those….
WOW, I want that wool!!!!!!! It’s gorgeous!
I can’t wait to see the hat pattern! I LOVE making hats….it’s one of my favorite things!
GL!
The color and the backwards collar and the cinched sleeves??? Perfect Elizabeth. Just perfect. And I adore the way she styled it with those pants. Thanks so much for joining in on the norah tour!
I just scratched the tester Caroline Party dress off my list, and I have 2 pairs of feetie PJ’s to sew, a pair of boxer shorts for my brother-in-law, a table quilt for my Mom, and some gift bags!
Yeehaw!
M
That’s Kerrie.
No, thank you Hayley for the pattern…it’s darling!
You are busy, lady!
We recently moved so it is taking awhile to adjust/regulate the different temperatures throughout the house. Plus, in the Pacific NW we received some unseasonably cold weather! Because of this, our bedrooms were pretty cold at night. So, (finally, I am getting there!) I made up some rice bags to warm in the microwave and put in our beds. I have now have extras on my sewing table to gift out for last minute emergencies.Love the tutorial from “wise craft handmade” for rice pillows.
We are having unseasonably cold weather (for Dec) here too….and I hadn’t even thought of rice bags….what a fantastic idea for cold toes!
I just thought I would share my epic fail. I melted all 5 of my new rice bags in the microwave (actually started them on fire) because I was trying to multitask/save time by putting them on for 10 minutes. So, now I have 7 rice bag cutouts on my sewing table to make up. Ugh!
