For the past few years my husband has been in charge of the games at his family Holiday party. So every year we try to come up with something different that will be entertaining for the variety of ages of those attending the party.
In the past we’ve done various versions of Jeopardy and Minute to Win It as well as the usual trivia and mixer games. But this year we decided to do a holiday version of…
(source)
That’s right.
What could be better for a holiday party than a good old fashioned round of Family Feud?
Here’s how we are going to play it.
First we need 2 teams of 5 players.
Since we are all in the same family we are going to do the teams generations style. One team will be ages 40 and up and the other team will be ages 39 and below.
(But that’s just us. You could do in-laws vs. “pure bloods” or men vs. women or bald vs. hairy….the team combos are endless so just choose one that would work best for your party).
Next you need a moderator.
For this you need someone who is loud and doesn’t mind taking charge or being the center of attention. This is not me…so my husband gets the job.
Now it’s time to play.
Have one person from each team come up to the front (where ever that is). At this point you will need a small table or a bar stool (we’ll be using a bar stool) with a single spoon sitting on it.
The moderator will then ask a question such as, “Aside from turkey, Thanksgiving dinner wouldn’t be complete without_______?”
Now which ever of the two contestants up front who thinks they have an answer will grab the spoon. Then when the spoon has been grabbed (taken, stolen, wrestled away, whatever) the person who is holding it will give their answer.
If they give an answer that is one of the top 5 answers their team will get to continue to guess answers until they either guess them all correctly or miss 3 times (get 3 strikes) at which point the other team will get to keep guessing the answers until all are guessed or they get 3 strikes as well.
If in the event that the person who grabs the spoon first gives an answer that is not one of the top 5 the opposing team automatically gets to begin guessing the answers.
As for scoring…
Teams get point based on the answers they guess correctly.
Answer 1 is worth 50 points.
Answer 2 is worth 40 points.
Answer 3 is worth 30 points.
Answer 4 is worth 20 points.
Answer 5 is worth 10 points.
And for the winning team….
The team with the most points at the end of 5 rounds is the winner.
Now you can stop here or you can go on to the bonus round.
The Bonus Round:
For our bonus round the winning team will select one player to come up and try to answer as many questions as they can in 60 seconds or less. These questions will be tailored to his family and just for fun.
For the answers to these questions I will go around an poll at least 15 people there that night before the game starts and ask them some of these questions:
Who would you least like to find yourself under the mistletoe with?
Who would you most like to go Christmas caroling with?
Who is most likely to get a lump of coal in their stocking?
Who makes the best Christmas cookies?
Who is most likely to be found kissing Santa Claus?
Who would look best in Ralphie’s pink bunny suit?
*****
Now for the past week or so I’ve been asking you questions on Facebook…that is because you were the people I polled to get the answers for this game! WHEW! I think that is everything.
That was a long post!
But hopefully you can use it. I think it would be a fun game to play at work or neighborhood parties as well but, like I said we are using it for my husband’s family party. And I think it’s going to be fun…I hope it will be anyways….
If any of you use it let me know how it goes and I’ll do the same.

That is what I thought! And I would think members of his family would read her blog on a regular basis too.

Only a few members read our blog (some of them don’t even know about it!) We don’t talk about it a lot, except with each other…strange but true….

I will definitely be using this, thanks so much. Last year we did Minute to Win It games and it was a huge hit.
