When the lovely Shannon asked if we would take part in the Sally Dress Tour….I gladly said yes, because Shannon is one of the nicest bloggers we know. Seriously…..she is the best. And a beautiful sewist. And a great momma to her girlies. And a magnificent knitter. And just all around cool.
But here’s my problem. Remember the days years ago when I was complaining because this girlie would only wear dresses, or skirts? Well, you probably don’t. But I do. As if it were yesterday.
And now, (sniff sniff) those days are gone. Now, all she wants to wear are skinny jeans (cuffed) and “cute shirts.”
Ages and stages. But it makes me realize how fast time goes by.
So, while I didn’t necessarily need to make another dress….what this girlie DID need this season was some great lounging wear (aka nightgowns).
And luckily the Sally Dress is EXCELLENT for dressy dresses…and EXCELLENT for loungewear!
(It’s a two-fer!)
So she picked out from the fabrics on hand and together we made a nightgown that is perfect for lounging, reading and movie-watching.
We sewed up a size 6 bodice with the elbow sleeves, omitting the pockets, and then added length and fullness to the skirt so it was sure to be comfortable. I did add the detail of the handmade bias tape around the gathers and the sleeves later….but she was happy with the additions when she saw them.
This was her first time putting in a sleeve and this pattern made putting in the sleeves a breeze (even with a fully lined bodice).
Thanks Shannon for inviting us!
~Elizabeth
PS—Here are the other stops this little pattern has made along the way. You need to see them all….they are all so different but fantastic!

I think it looks great. It has a very old school look to me. Add a smock and I see a Laura Ingalls Wilder costume?

That is adorable! I think it looks like it could be worn out! My favorite clothes are the ones that can be worn either out or for lounging!
