Welcome to Week 2 of our Super Scary Sewing Stories!
(If you missed week one you can find it here—Super Scary Sewing Stories Week One.)
This week we have 4 more tales of sewing terror….so let’s get started.
Story number one comes from Amber over at Crazy Little Projects:
“A few summers ago I made myself a very simple Maxi Skirt. It’s long and black and so comfy that I wear it to church all the time. The trouble with this skirt is that I took the term Maxi to the limit and this skirt reaches almost to the floor. One Sunday in the middle of church my 2 year old started to scream (because that’s what 2 year olds do, you know). As quickly as I could I jumped up to take him out of the meeting. I didn’t realize it, but my shoe caught on my skirt as I was standing up and by the time I was halfway down the aisle to get out of the chapel…my skirt was around my thighs. In front of the entire congregation. Trust me, that’s not just scary, it’s horrifying. I never looked up to see who noticed, I just bee-lined it out of the meeting and tried to bury the memory. Someday I’ll laugh about this story-it’s still a little too fresh for me. You laugh. I’ll just continue to be horrified.”*****
Story number two comes from RaeAnna over at Sewing Mama RaeAnna:
“My scary story is a lesson that I learned…..you can’t take your eyes off your kid for one second!!! 🙂
My son was 10 months and crawling EVERYWHERE! I thought I would get some hand sewing done while we were downstairs and brought my buttons, thread and needle to work on while I watched him play. I was working on sewing one of the buttons and realized I didn’t see him. I got up and saw he had climbed half way up the stairs! Luckily I got there in time before he started falling! We barricaded the bottom of the steps after that! :)”

Story number three comes from Autumn over at It’s Always Autumn: “My scariest sewing story:One summer when I was home from college a friend of mine got married and asked me to be a bridesmaid. Her mom was sewing up all the bridesmaids’ dresses, as well as all the cousins’ dresses, and the groomsmen’s vests, and about a hundred other things, so I offered to make my own dress. ‘Cuz I know how to sew, right? And then I decided to sew the whole thing up on my mom’s serger, ‘cuz I know how to use a serger, right? (Do you know where this story is going?) The dress actually turned out great – miraculously it fit well and it was even pretty cool for a bridesmaid’s dress. By the day before the wedding all I had to do was finish the neckline. As I sewed the facing on, the material bunched up and as I serged I cut a HUGE gaping hole through the front of the bodice. Honestly, someone who doesn’t sew has no concept of the horror I felt when I realized what I had done. How was I supposed to make a new dress in time? Was there even enough left over fabric? What in the world was I going to do?
My mom took pity on me because I was crying too hard to talk and called my friend’s mom to tell her what happened. She came by, picked up the dress, and returned it the next morning looking as perfect as can be. I still feel bad when I think of the midnight hours she must have spent unpicking the bodice, sleeves, etc., to put in a new front piece and finish it up.”

And our last story of the day, story number four comes from Kimbo over at A Girl and a Glue Gun:
“I am always leaving pins all over the floor….So you would think that this story is going to be about the time i stepped on a pin. But it’s not. It’s also not about the time I broke a needle on my sewing machine and flew up and was about 1/2 inch from my eye (picture me in goggles when i sew) This story is about the time I stepped on my measuring tape. It was laid out and i was jumping over my fabric that i was measuring and cutting…and stepped on it. Which doesn’t seem like a big deal–except for the little piece of metal on the end. Sliced my foot right open. You know that sick to you stomach feeling you get when you hurt yourself…and you can’t even look at it. Yeah…like that. I remember I started seeing blood all over the floor so I had to man up and put some bandaids on it…(we don’t got the hospital unless something get’s chopped off!) oh. man. to this day I walk delicately around any measure tapes.”

Sorry Amber, but your story is just too funny. I think I would have changed churches! As for the tape measure-gross! I could see it coming. But can I please add this note to all women….we all know men are wimps so I prefer the term “WOMAN UP” , We all know that women stick it out through thick and thin (sickness, ailments, migraines) to take care of business!

ah hahaha Amber, your story. That is one of my biggest fears, when I wear an elastic waited skirt to church. I hang on to it quite often!
Pam @Threading My Way says
I’m never leaving my tape measure on the floor again…
