Hello!
A little while back we were given the opportunity to make a few items for Birch Fabrics to use at Quilt Market. It was our first experience with their organic knits….and we LOVED them!
We chose two pieces from their “Just For Fun” line and after receiving them I decided that I wanted to make something for a baby boy with that soft buttery fabric.
So I put together this little set:
A matching blanket, bib, and burp cloth.
(It so made me wish I had a little guy to snuggle in them!)
I’ve made at least 100 of these blankets. (And I’m not exaggerating.) But I’ve never made one from knit before…and now I’m wondering why not! It turned out so soft and wonderful that I think I like it even better than the flannel that I’ve always used in the past.
If you want to make one of these blankets, they are REALY easy and Elizabeth put together a tutorial for them here: A Self-Binding Baby Blanket Tutorial
As for the burp cloth….
You are going to follow the exact same instructions for the Self Binding Baby Blanket to make it. The only thing that you are going to change are the measurements. Instead of cutting 2 squares you are going to cut 2 rectangles.
Like this:
Your large rectangle will be 28 inches long and 10 and 1/2 inches wide.
Your small rectangle will be 24 inches long and 6 and 1/2 inches wide.
Once you have your pieces cut follow the blanket instructions and you are set!
Easy!
And as for the bib…I just made it up…I can post a pattern if you really want it but I think there may be about 1.75 million free bib patterns out there on the web. (But like I said, if you want it I’ll whip it up:)
So there you have it. A matching blanket, bib, and burp cloth set made from knit.
It’s a set I’ve put together over and over again but never with knit…and I’m kind of in love!
Who knew?

PS—Just to give you a little heads up, in case you want to start some planning…Thursday is “Talk Like A Pirate Day”. (It really is…I used to make my classes do it when I taught school…mostly for my own entertainment of course…) And just in case you aren’t so much into pirates, Wednesday happens to be Rice Krispie Treats Day.
BUT if your really into both you could make the Jolly Rodger out of Rice Krispie Treats while yo ho-ing, swabbing the deck, or walking the plank and start a You Tube sensation…yeah, I’d probably watch that…
*Note to self: Stop prescheduling posts late at night when you haven’t had enough sleep. You tend to ramble.*
