Did you know that September is National Sewing Month?
I am sure you did and the best part is that Coats and Clark wants to help you celebrate your National Sewing Month projects, and you have 5 chances to win!
Recently I was on the prowl for some neon pink thread for the Vintagely Modern Neon Skirt I made and could NOT find anything to match in my stash. The light pink was too light, the dark was too dark. But when I went to my sewing supply store of course, Coats and Clark already has neon pink thread available. Score for me!!! And it was a perfect match (see no thread line at the hem….that’s how perfect of a neon pink it was!)
So, to celebrate this great sewing month one lucky reader will win a Coats and Clark Anniversary Tin filled with sewing goodies like fabric, zippers and thread. Did you see that polka-dot zipper down in the front? Love, love. I think I need like 50 of those…..

When I am in a sewing rut…. I either look online to find cute things to sew and then I get super excited about doing them. Other times, I have to take a trip to the fabric store and get lost in what I could do with each fabric. Then I end up buying way too much, but I now have great inspiration!!!!
I usually search images on the Internet for ideas and collect them in a folder for those times when when I need inspiration.
I search for stuff online.
To get out of a sewing rut, I hit Pinterest and get a billion new ideas!

I started sewing to make cute things for my little niece. I do all sorts of other projects, but when I’m in a rut I can always come back to her and make a little dress.
When I’m in a sewing rut, I grab an iced tea and stand in front of my fabric closet. Inspiration comes or I’m reminded of a fabric I have to work with. Thank you!!
Often I just have to browse through some patterns in magazines or online to find something that gets me excited to sew. Or sometimes I just sew wonky monochrome log cabin blocks from leftover strips — eventually I have a big pile to make into a quilt.
Finding new and exciting things to make on the internet motivates me and takes up most of my time!
Sewing blogs motivate me to sew 🙂

When I’m in a rut I simply go and sit for a while on my porch. Our log cabin is set in the middle of 6 acres of timber and full of animals and plant life. I only have to look around at God’s beauty and the ideas flow again.

Changing seasons and growing children motivate me to keep sewingwhen I am in a rut.
Usually when I am in a sewing rut, what gets me out is a deadline. So I always try to set myself a deadline, even if it isn’t truly a real one.
All I have to do is browse both the internet and my stash, and a new and exciting project will come to mind that just has to get done!
What gets me out of a sewing rut is buying new fabric. Getting something new to sew with motivates me to get sewing. Although a deadline does help some.
I start following a bunch of blogs to get inspiration!
when I am in a sewing rut… I first take a break. Then I look through awesome blogs and get re-inspired by all the amazing things people can make with fabric. Then I look at my children and think about what they need… and I get back to work ;o) *testing patterns for companies or ‘having’ to come up with blog content also help get me out of the days where I feel lost.

When I’m in a rut (sewing or otherwise), I tend to browse the internet to get inspired. Just now, I was inspired because my son’s theater teacher is expecting a new baby, and what’s better than making baby gifts?!
I happen to use a lot of C&C products and I love them. I would follow them on Facebook, but I despise Facebook and so I will have to pass on that entry option. :/
I just started sewing so I haven’t run into my first rut yet. But I’m finding that reading sewing blogs seems to be generate too many ideas!
Sometimes I need a little break from sewing. What gets me back in the mood is some new fun idea that I’m excited about. Currently, I’m excited about my girl’s 3rd birthday, I’ve been sewing up all kinds of fun things for her.
It helps me to get the juices going to make something for someone else.
When I’m in a sewing rut, I go into my pinterest boards and look through all the ideas I’ve collected and have yet to try. I usually find a great starting point there.

When I can’t motivate myself to sew, I will sometimes look for a project I can get excited about. That might be something new inspired by fabric I find at the store or sometimes it means looking through my pile of projects and finding one I really like that got buried. Also there is nothing better to motivate me than a deadline (something coming up that I want a project finished in time for.) Sometimes a good cleaning of my sewing space is all it takes; can be so hard to sew in a messy cluttered space!
When I’m in a sewing rut, the thing that motivates me is making plans on what I’m going to make for Christmas that needs to be sewn. I always make homemade sewn Christmas gifts. For family and friends. It makes me excited to start something new no matter the rut I’m in.
I look on Pinterest, or in my fabric stash for inspiration.
Pintrest of course! In fact, most of my sewing endeavors are based on something else I saw that I want to re-create.
I’m the lazy type that has to have a pressing need to get me out of a rut, ie the 5 yr old grew out of her pants again.

Two things – changing to a different style project, and making something for someone else. I’ve recently been in a bit of a sewing rut and the thing that got me out was making a bag for a friend who was going through a difficult time.

When I’m in a sewing rut, I’ll take a break for a couple days. My next inspiration will hit me like a ton of bricks, and I always come up with something awesome after a rut! So I guess my advice is…don’t sew when you don’t feel like it:)

I have so many WIPs that I can’t really get in a rut – I can always switch to a different project.
A sewing rut is a good get-away to do other house projects – which inevitably leads me back to sewing as I think of other projects to make to go with my house project! – it’s either a never ending circle or perfect inspiration – not sure which but I’m OK with both! Thanks.

It usually takes a looming deadline to push me out of a sewing rut … like the pattern test deadline I have on Sunday (I haven’t touched my machine since my baby was born over 3 weeks ago!). 😉
When I am in a sewing rut, a deadline kicks me in the pants and gets me out of my sewing rut.
When I’m in a sewing rut, I go to a favorite blog and dig deeper– I look at a chronology of their projects, or maybe their selection of tutorials or patterns for a quilt along, and that gets me going. It’s hard to focus on the little problems when you see an overview!
I follow C&C on Facebook! Love your story about the neon pink, and I love that skirt!
No sewing rut here, just lack of time to implement all those ideas in my head 😉
Liked them long ago on Facebook… and you guys too 😉
A deadline on an order gets my sewing done when I’m in a rut.
When I’m in a rut, I pull out my quilting books and browse through fabric shops on-line, envisioning my next project. There’s so much inspiration out there! It helps me to branch out and try something new. Maybe I love it, maybe not. Either way, I’m proud and excited to have something new I have learned.

When I’m in a sewing rut, usually one of two things will pull me out of it:
1. One of my kids gives me the puppy-dog look asking me to make them something (usually inspired by some sort of video game).
2. I’ll be inspired to sew something – like a quilt – for a friend who is in need of some handmade love.

When I am in a sewing rut, I put down my project and start a new one (eek probably not such a great idea!) It usually happens when there is a bunch of stitch ripping to be done, BUT, if the project is any good, I hate to see it go unfinished, I love seeing the finished product so that usually motivates me to pick it up again.
Yep, already a big Coats & Clark fan!
When in a rut, I start with Pinterest and the 100’s of items I have pinned to my Sewing boards — next thing you know, the machine is humming and creativity is flowing.
Have been a Facebook fan of you and Coats and Clark for quite a while — also subscribe to you and Coats and Clark’s blogs — love them.
When I get into a sewing rut, I usually take a little break from my current project and just rest a while. Then I’ll go to great clothing sites for inspiration. I’ll look at something and think “I could make that!”. That gives me the motivation to finish what I’m working on currently, and the vision for my next project. Looking through my collection of sewing patterns is also a great way to get me jumpstarted- there are still so many great pieces I want to sew, I just have to remind myself that.
When I am in a sewing rut, there is nothing like a deadline to get me sewing.

what motivates me to sew is the fact that I like/love to sew. I have made a few skirts, lots of pillows, a couple of double sided head bands, and a couple other things. I enjoy the e-mails. Thanks
What motivates me is deadlines. Most of my sewing is either done for a special order, a craft fair, or a specific event for one of my kids. Knowing I have to have something done, or I’ll disappoint my children or anger my customers, keeps me going!

When I am in a sewing rut, I pick something very practical to sew. Something that my kids need or mending. Soon, I get bored with mending and my mind gets creative and I then drop the mending back to the bottom of the to-do list and start having fun again! ~Major Moma
