Look at that face.
Man, I love this kid.
I cannot believe that she is old enough to go to kindergarten this year…and I cannot believe that summer is already over.
I had such big plans for this summer. Actually, they weren’t big plans–they were plans to spend long days in the backyard running through sprinklers, playing in the mud and getting sun burned. But for some reason our plans were derailed quite a bit.
How it happened I’ll never know but we spent most of the summer with at least one sick family member at all times, and a few times all three kids were sick!
So here we’ve sat bundled up in the house eating chicken noodle soup and watching movies while the rest of the world has been riding bikes and going on vacation.
Not so much fun when you are only 5…and 8…and almost 2.
One day we were all particularly under the weather with a bad case of the flu. Some friends came to see if my kids could play and, of course, I had to turn them away. Grace started to cry…this summer was more than she could take: no swimming, no friends, and then as she pointed out, “I haven’t even had a Capri Sun!”
(True story.)
Well, I couldn’t fix the flu but I could fix the Capri Sun situation.
So we all sat there, on the couch (instead of on the porch) and drank our Capri Suns. Sure it wasn’t the same as sipping it next to the pool but it tasted like summer and it made Grace happy.
In fact, I ended up stocking up on Capri Sun (Capri Sun Super V, to be exact) so as we continued to battle illness throughout the summer my kids had something sweet to slurp, which worked out well since they can all hold the pouches without spilling and then just throw the pouches and germs away when they are done. Also, Capri Sun has no preservatives, no artificial colors, and no artificial flavors, which is an added bonus!
Luckily not ALL of our days this summer have been indoors on the couch. We have had a few of the days that I had hoped for…the sun, the sprinklers, and the Capri Sun.
And those days, are my kind of days.

(PS—Grace is “tricking” you in this picture. She drank all of her Capri Sun and then blew air into the pouch so it looked full again. She does this EVERY TIME she finishes drinking them….)

I hear you. We had the first third of our summer “lost” to sickness. Memorial Day weekend we had a wonderful visit with my dad and his wife here in MO. They left on Monday and my husband came down with the WORST hacking/sickness I could imagine. His lasted off and on (more ON) for a month with one dose of antibiotices in there. My 13 year old one week in came down with a virus, in bed for two days with 104 fever. She slowly came around and at the end of the week with things looking up I entered her room to find her rubbing her eyes and complaining they hurt–massive pink eye! Back to the Dr. and they also found an ear infection! During this time I had my husbands sickness but in a more “normal” state–cough, exhausted but just enough for me to carry on and do my motherly duties. My 10 year old dodged it all! However, she had to give up friends over or going for fear of carrying one of our many ailments. Swim days lost, play dates lost…and both my husband and I ended up with pink eye also. The worst of all the sickness was the lack of communication within the house! Eventually the summer fun came and went–all to soon. And we had such liveable weather here in MO this summer! I feel your pain. But we are all here, healthy and happy, school has begun–life is good 🙂

I’m sorry you’ve had such a yucky summer! You do have a few more days to enjoy it at least a little though. Maybe some fresh air will do everyone good 🙂 BTW..I love the Capri Sun Super V. I feel like I can trick the kids into drinking something healthier each time!

this has been the summer for it – flu, stomach bug, 3 weeks of really HORRIBLE hand foot mouth that went through all three kids, summer colds… I feel like I can count on just my fingers the number of WHOLE family healthy days that we have had ;op Even on our one vacation, my husband got the stomach bug. Sigh. I’m so sorry that you have been going through it too. I’m glad that Grace got her Capri Suns as least!
