A super easy and inexpensive way to add interest to any skirt or dress is to add trim.
When I buy trim for Gracie’s skirts I always buy 1 and 1/2 yards. (This gives me enough to put around a full skirt and have a little left over just in case 🙂
This particular trim I bought at Jo-Ann’s and after using a coupon it cost right around $2. Not too bad. And I loooooove it.
But if you don’t love the southwestern flavor as mush as I do there are laces, and ribbons, and sequence and a million other kinds of trims…all under $5 that can add a little spice to any look.

PS— Today’s $5 Friday idea comes from a skirt that “didn’t make it” into Grace’s Spring Look Book.
It’s not that I don’t like this skirt. In fact, I kind of love this skirt but in the end it didn’t fit in with the finally selections. That’s ok. She’s already gotten some wear out of this one—and she wears it with the velvet vest I made for one of her Fall Look Book outfits.

I love that skirt. The black and white look so crisp. Can I ask what type of fabric you used for the skirt? Is it linen?

That is one sweet outfit!
The trim totally makes it.
