I promise you that Liz and I will share our sewing adventures from over the weekend soonish (maybe tomorrow if we can get our thoughts together and our laundry done!) but today I wanted to share a dress that I finished in January but never photographed until yesterday.
I drafted the shift dress pattern from Hannah’s sloper and then added an exaggerated peter-pan collar which I am loving at the moment. After I made this dress I got on an exaggerated-collar kick—so there will be lots more to share soon (including other shapes).
Here’s a close-up of the collar and ribbon tie….
The other thoughts that have been running through my head lately (especially after this weekend) are thoughts of gratefulness (is that even a word?) for the amazing sewing community that we are lucky enough to be a part of.
Both Liz and I were talking over the weekend about how lucky we are. And how much we feel a part of something that is so much bigger than this little blog. Someone commented over the weekend that “sewing could solve the world’s problems” and I totally and completely agree. The sewing world is so full of such amazingly talented people who just take it all in stride and are some of the genuinely nicest individuals we have ever met.
And I truly feel so humbled and honored to be a part of it. So, I don’t mean to sound cheesy….but a sincere thanks for coming around here every day. It really is a pleasure to know you….(and I know liZ feels the same way). So thanks from both of us.
~Elizabeth

You don’t sound cheesy at all! I just recently started following sewing blogs including yours and I totally get it! I am so glad I have found this sewing community! Now this sounds cheesy but I feel like it has already changed my life 🙂 The dress is beautiful Elizabeth!! I have to tell you, after seeing the dress you made your daughter for Christmas pictures I was just in awe and totally inspired to learn how to sew! So THANK YOU for inspiring me to fall in love with this new hobby! 🙂

Beautiful dress, and I agree about the sewing community! It can be scary to “put yourself out there” for the world to read, but it’s always been met with such support and kind words. Plus, I’ve grown so much since I started sewing about 4 years ago, and much of that is because of the support of the sewing and blogging community. -Jen
