People have asked what my husband does while I’m sewing.
Well, this should answer that question.
He loves to build and measure and use power tools.
Our entire garage has been turned into his personal workshop.
Some people might think that would be annoying…but…I’m sitting here in the family room that houses my sewing machine and a shelf full of both sewing and art supplies so you won’t hear me complaining.
(I let him do his thing and he let’s me do mine. It’s a pretty good deal.)
Plus he really does make great things.
(Like Simon’s lego and robot display shelves, that bench out front, and even these wood floors .)
I actually should share his work a little more often.
He’s pretty creative, for a dude. And the kids love what he makes.
This magnet board has already gotten hours and hours worth of playtime.
Especially with the Frigits set that my mom bought Simon last year at the Children’s Museum.
(It has been a favorite toy not only with our kids but every kid that comes to our house!)
And since we’ve never gotten bar stools for the kitchen counter this space is always clear for use.
My husband claims that this magnet board was an “easy project”.
(It wouldn’t be for me but if any of you out there are adventurous I’ll tell you how he put it together.)
To build the magnet board he attached sheet metal directly to the panel board underneath the counter top and then ran a thin strip of molding around the perimeter so that all the sharp edges of the metal would be covered.
He actually built it one night while I was cutting out some patterns.
We both finished around the same time so we ate some ice cream and watched MacGyver.
(Now that’s true love.)
(Now that’s true love.)
So there you have it.
The answer to the burning question that has been on everyone’s minds (or what you really don’t care about and never need to know): “What does my husband do while I sew?”
Have a good Monday everyone.

Very neat idea! Our fridge is our magnet area and whiteboard! Haha. I do all my sewing while hubby is at work and the twins nap or when all 4 kiddies are tucked in at night, and hubby either watches tv or plays Nintendo! Not constructive at the same time, wouldn’t be nice to wake the neighbours with a jigsaw or orbital at 11pm lol. We do most hardware type projects together on weekends or late arve while the kids play outside! 🙂

This is great! I was think of painting under our island with chalk board paint to keep the kids entertained while I cook. I think I need to ask the husband to put up a magnet board too. I wonder if you could paint sheet metal with chalk board paint and have both? My husband is always building things as well. He built himself a “clubhouse” in our backyard for all his tools and gear! It’s great to have a handy husband!

What a fun idea! I’m glad you posted it. I’d love to see more of your husband’s projects. My husband likes to do things like that also, but doesn’t feel like he has much time. Maybe if I sewed more he’d feel justified in making us more cool stuff for our house. Win win?

This is so great. Looks like so much fun for the kids.
During our kids nap time (and in the summer at bedtime) my husband works on cars and I work on sewing, and when it is time to relax we both have got our “work with our hands” time in. Love real life love stories.
