One of Hannah’s Christmas gifts this year was to re-do her room. She’s been begging us since we switched the boys’ rooms back in the summer, and she was thrilled Christmas morning to finally get her wish. Her bedroom has been the same since she was two and got her twin bed, so I really can’t complain. It was time for a bit of updating. (Although it makes me sad that my little girl doesn’t want a little girl room anymore—she is growing up way too fast for this momma.)
She’s been talking about the colors raspberry pink and bright orange since back in the summer…but we had to make a few compromises along the way.
“No, we can’t paint the whole room raspberry pink.”
I wish I were a throw-caution-to-the-wind mom and do it…but I can’t. And her room is on the small side….it really would have drowned the space. (Please tell me I am not the meanest mom ever….maybe I am.)
We did finally agree with painting the room a blueish-grayish-neutral (how’s that for a description for you) with LOTS of raspberry pink and bright orange accents. We are even going to be painting a thrifted headboard bright orange.
The painting started this last weekend, and hopefully I can finish up today and tomorrow. I am then planning to move onto the sanding and painting the new-to-us headboard (that is currently and weird rainbow mix of colors) and then move everything back in.
We also found some new curtain fabric that we saw at a high-end store that we both really liked. But the fabric was $45 dollars a yard…..um…..no. So I promptly came home and found the same fabric on the internet for a 1/3 of the price. YAY for internet fabric sources! That adds new curtains on the list too.
And then the plan is that she and I will make her a quilt to match. Pinks, with an orange border, which she is absolutely thrilled about. Hopefully I can take some pictures along the way and we will be done with the whole room in the next couple of weeks or so. (And you may or may not be sick of hearing about it by then 😉
So much for a quiet week around here, huh? I am tired just thinking about that list 😉

Love that colour combo! Actually, Anja’s room has accents in those colours along with some aqua thrown in. Can’t wait to see how Hannah’s room turns out!

I’m excited to see what you do, as I’m thinking about doing a room for my daughter soon too, but it’s not really my thing. So I hope you will have lots of ideas and advice coming up.

awww – so fun that she gets what she wants (well mostly) – I wouldn’t paint the whole room raspberry either – neutral walls make it way easier to change the decor as the get bigger and their tastes change. Her room is going to feel so bright and happy ;o)

Definitely not a mean mom… just a practical one. =) It looks like it is going to be a very fun room! I have a sister that would just adore a room in these colors. =)

Definitely not a mean mom! I’m sixteen and love your blog, but anyways, a few years ago I had the *great* idea to paint my room marigold yellow. It’s overwhelming and crazy and I plan to repaint it a light shade of grey soon. And with neutral walls, when Hannah wants something new, she doesn’t have to repaint, just switch out the decorations. Hannah will thank you someday for not letting her paint her room bright pink! I love her color scheme – so cute!

What a great Mom you are. I haven’t seen that color combination for awhile. It is nice to be reminded what a neat combo it is. Like the others, I can’t wait to see the pictures!
