So another season of Project Runway just ended.
And I was a little surprised at the winner…
Dmitry
Hummm…who knew?
Not me.
Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy Dmitry (especially when Elena was driving him CRAZY) and I admire the heck out of his tailoring skills but I just didn’t peg him for the winner of the season.
(Although he should have gotten a prize for putting up with all of Elena’s super drama.)
I’ve mentioned before I was a solid Sonjia fan (Remember I even made a scarf to look like hers.) She was cool, and nice, and I loved her style (usually). But I also LOVED Fabio…not necessarily his style (although his final color palette was my absolute favorite) but him, personally. His attitude, the way he treated others the ease that he carried himself with. He was refreshing and I loved him….and I assumed others did to…
…But this morning I looked over on the Project Runway Site and saw that Elena is the season fan favorite.
What the heck?
Seriously what is going on?
I’m wondering if I am crazy.
(I wonder this a lot actually.)
Elena was mean and nasty and made poor quality items and she is the fan favorite?
Is that what people like?
And if so, why?
Can someone please explain this to me?
And as for the season finale…I dug Fabio’s pastel grunge (although I know that isn’t what he called it). It was different and unique and totally him. I might not wear it but I can respect the point of view.
I liked the crazy print Christopher made (even though I wish he would have done an entire collection of his beautiful gowns—really that boy has talent with those).
But I really didn’t love anything. Or have anything else to say about any of the other work. It was a strange finale to me.
Did anyone else feel the same or am I really going crazy?

PS–Did you see that a new season is starting (Oct. 25th) and that it is like a super villian round? Except for Anthony Ryan–I love Anthony Ryan. (And I hope I still do after this next season.)
I’m not sure what I think about this next season…

I totally agree! the finale was very odd…you could definitely feel everyone leaning toward Fabio when it was just down to the last two and then boom, they picked Demitry. Elena got a little better attitude-wise toward the end but definitely not a fan favorite! Weird season…sad it is over though, I love that Tim Gunn.

Agreed – strange finale, unexpected winner. I couldn’t get into Fabio’s collection at all, but it was very ‘him’ and had a definite sense of style. I loved Christopher all season, but his famil show just never gelled and didn’t have his usual beauty and ‘wow’ elements. The fact that i can never remember the girl’s name should say something ;op But I did love her red dress and some of her leather peices. Overall it just wasn’t what I expected and I wish Sonjia had been in the finale!!!

I really liked Demitry, but I also thought that any of the final 4 could have won. And I really liked Elena, but not what she made, I liked the constant drama between her and Demitry (drama usually annoys me, but this time I kept thinking they were feuding like a married couple, and wouldn’t it be cute if they got together? which was probably silly) and I appreciated that she was very driven, and she just wanted to get stuff done, but she wasn’t super great at communicating with others. I especially liked her after she started apologizing for her behavior. Because the episodes are filmed right after another, so she kind of went crazy for awhile (but really only like a week or two, not the months we saw it), but she recognized it and tried to get along. And I think that every so often I go crazy to, and I can appreciate being completely stressed AND PMS’ing, and losing it.

I was surprised by Dmitry, too. His clothes are so well done – very commercial. But, they weren’t what I’d call avant garde. I didn’t like Fabio’s collection at all. I didn’t get it. But, I agree, he was the nicest of them all. As for Elena, I have this soft spot for her. I think she comes from the kind of poverty Americans can never understand. The drive it takes to go from that to being a contestant on PR, earns my esteem. I’m glad she won a little cash. I hope someone like Sanjia gets a fabric line or possibly creates some sewing patterns. I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

I was surprised, too! His clothes were always beautiful but I didn’t think he really should’ve won. I really really DISLIKED Elena. She was so awful throughout the show. I really liked Christopher but his last collection didn’t seem as put together. 🙂

http://www.tomandlorenzo.com – they’ve been writing about PR since the beginning. Hilarious, insightful and will help make sense of the mess Lifetime has turned PR into.

I was so glad Dmitry won- i loved his dresses. and agreed with Tim gunn that he was such a gentleman throughout. I was really suprpised that fabio went to fashion week. he never won anything just floated along, and somehow got to show at fashion week? I think overall it was an underwhelming season. and happy a new one is coming soon though.

I didn’t know, because I hadn’t watched it yet! (no cable, have to watch online). How about a spoiler alert warning?!?

dmitry was the last one i wanted to win. his clothes were pretty and all but not something you would oooh and aaah about. the one i liked was fabio’s gowns the most. he really did beautiful clothes but his gowns stopped it for me. dmitry’s attitude was awful. look at how he talked and acted toward sonjia, now there is the one who should have had a chance at the end there, he was such a hateful, jealous, person. i for one, was very upset that he had won. i also think one thing that kept elena from winning was her sending the white dress out too tight at the bottom. i was hoping she might cut a slit up each side or up the back, at least half way and then the tightness in the hem would not show. the model looked pitiful trying to walk down the run way. oh, well, no one asked me my opinion did they? lol

Absolutely. I also think that Sonjia had the best clothes – when they cut her I was sitting open-mouthed in front of the screen, yelling “you can’t do that! she’s the best!”. And the rest of the designers might be really competent, technique-wise, but the finale was just “meh” for me. *sigh*

I too wish there was a spoiler alert. I DVR my shows & didn’t know who won. I was hoping it was Chris, he’s so sweet & talented. I too agree Elena was horrible. She probably would have made me cry lol. The guys were really nice. Can’t wait for the new show to start, to bad only Anthony is the nice person on the show. I hope he last till the end. May the GOOD people conquer the BAD.

Ok. Thank you for the super villain comment! I saw the All-Stars cast and thought, “Did NOT like him; she is so mean; not a fan, not a fan…” I thought that I was a little nuts, so I’m glad to see that someone else thought they were featuring the meanies!! And as for Elena being fan favorite… Really? I mean, really?!
Christine Shaha says
I totally agree. I cried when Dmitry won I was so happy for him. I thought he was quiet and nice and was very talented. His style seemed more European, maybe that is why so many people didn’t get it. I can see how Elena was a favorite too…she wasn’t mine, but i thought she was very miss understood and maybe got trapped in a box early on about what kinda of person she was and then she just became defensive because she felt alone and like everyone hated her. It was sad, my heart really went out to her.

I felt the same about this finale. It wasn’t my fav but I still think that Fabio should have won it. I am also up in the air about the new allstar season. About half the designers bug me. Not sure if I’ll watch it or not. And, everytime Elena would speak I would mute the tv cuz her voice is like nails on chalkboard to me.

I had the same problem! Ah well. I’ll still watch it, but now I don’t have to try to avoid spoilers until I can watch it this weekend?

Yea, usually I have a clear favorite but didn’t this time around. I really wasn’t blown away by anything in the finale. I wanted to be… sad. I think All Stars will be VERY interesting… I love it all!

There was no one I liked as a designer or a person until more than halfway through. Dmitry finally caught my attention because I noticed he and my four year old seemed to have the same sense of humour. However I cried when Fabio lost to him. I felt like Fabio’s collection was new and fresh and lovely and AH-MAZING. I totally want that drapey, slouchy white dress as a reward for when I lose 150 pounds. 🙂
Jenni says
We all cheered at our house when Dmitry won. Considering the time constraints on the final collection, he came up with the most professional, cohesive looks that seemed to belong on a runway. His inventiveness may be more subtle than others, but his pieces are much more wearable than everyone else’s, too. That being said, we all thought Sonjia should’ve been in the final four over any of the other three.
Julie says
I thought Dimitry’s clothes looked like they were for “ladies who lunch” I didn’t get them and wouldn’t buy them. I hated Fabio’s clothes. If I want to look like I’m wearing a rag I’ll wear rags. I was very surprised it came down to them for the final two. I liked Christopher’s collection but I think his downfall was that there was no “wow factor” I loved Melissa’s collection. It was hands down my favorite. I LOVE her leather pieces all of them but then I like to work with leather too. It is not easy to work with leather. I HATED Elana. She was like a cat with 9 lives. Beat it! SOOO glad when she finally went bye bye!
