Today’s “School Girl” look is a Peter Pan collared blouse (you knew there had to be at least one peter pan collar 😉 and a stretch denim A-line skirt.
First up is the skirt. Â Since my daughter is getting a bit older, I made a simple A-line skirt with front and back darts and a back zipper. Â The stretch denim is from LA at FIDM and it was $3 a yard (I bought 5 yards). Â I used less than 1/2 yard because it was 60 inches wide, so I still have a TON of stretch denim leftover which is great news.
I did find a great tutorial from Justine HERE for drafting an A-line skirt on your own if you want to make one.  (And the great thing about little girls’ skirts is that there are no hips to worry about…so it’s a easy draft!)
The blouse is a simple peter pan collared blouse with some on-the-bias gingham fabric….that I think gives some great dimension to the shirt. Â I found this fabric on summer clearance at Hancock Fabrics, and love the look of it. Â It ended up at about $3.75 per yard and I used exactly a yard to make the shirt. Â
I really promise I am working on a pattern for this blouse…and even hope to have it graded for you…..it is on the top of the “to do” list. Â Probably because every little girls NEEDS a blouse like this, don’t you agree?
The buttons are vintage buttons that I found in my stash that just happened to match perfectly (which was fate, I tell you….button fate.)
Tights are the same charcoal gray ones from yesterday (Target), belt also from Target (3 neon belts for $10–you’ll see one more soon) and the shoes were from last year that luckily still fit (Gap outlet on clearance).

Love it! A lot! Very intimidated by making a PP collar blouse. Need to make a bunch before Xmas. I think the button holes are scaring me. Never made a bunch of button holes.

This is wonderful. She looks so grown up. (And at 3 dollars a yard, you were totally justified in getting the extra denim.)

That blouse is truly adorable. I love that it is not too little girly, but still sweet and innocent. Will be anxiously awaiting a tutorial/pattern for it

I love this outfit! I would wear it, if I didn’t have linebacker shoulders. Time to sew for the daughters again. =)
