I knew from the beginning that I wanted a cropped shirt. You see there was this cropped white shirt in a “Gidget” movie that I have been dreaming about and wanted to make. I didn’t get a picture of the shirt alone, but it is a boat neck raglan sleeve easy shirt. But, when I finished I knew the shirt needed a detail. And so “the ginormica heart” found it’s place.
The cardigan is Hey Jude’s Greenpoint Cardigan (made my the famous Crafterhours) that I LOVE! It was a great easy and fast project. I ended up not adding the buttons because I liked the look and feel of a boyfriend cardigan with the outfit….and it will work so well for so many Fall and Winter layering days. ( I really can’t recommend the pattern more—even for a beginner—it will make you like knit!)
The skinny jeans, well they are still in a drafting stage. This was a third draft of the pattern I made and I still feel like they are a work in progress. The yoke for me is still a bit too long and the denim thread that I bought—MY MACHINE HATEDDDD! I am sure the pattern will get worked on some more….next week maybe. But I kind of got bit by a jeans-making bug.
Any fun weekend sewing going at your house? I am now working on a few boys things for Fall.

is the heart an applique or painted on – such a sweet look, I love the proportions! I have some denim sitting in my stash, but I’m not sure I’m ready to tackle jeans yet – maybe a denim coat… I had no clue there even was denim thread ;op

Great look! Tip on the denim thread – my machine HATES the stuff too, but it is absolutely fine with upholstery thread, which you can find in the same colors as denim thread and only appears different on very close inspection – the thread is a little more tightly woven and slicker in appearance.

It’s actually faux vinyl that I stitched on.

I used upholstery thread on the other two drafts…but was trying to be more authentic with the third draft. So much for that…

My machine hates the denim thread too… it helps a little if you use a top-stitching needle. I love the heart on the shirt. =)

I want this outfit too. Maybe I’m a seven year old girl. 🙂 Those jeans are awesome!!! My machine doesn’t like denim thread either. Or maybe my denim needle wasn’t new enough?

Thanks for your kind words, Elizabeth! I just love how simple yet stunning this outfit is. You have such a great style and eye for color.

The shirt is super! My daughter would LOVE one, she won’t wear skinny jeans though! 🙂 But those are super cute and it is a great outfit!

I’ve been playing with the embroidery function on my sewing machine this weekend, I let Nicole pick out a pattern from Urban Threads and being a 5 year old girl, she picked out this chubby cartoon pegasus with a rainbow mane. I embroidered it on some lightweight denim and I’m making a full swishy skirt with pockets and a wide hem with it. She freaked out (in a good way) when she saw the finished embroidered pegasus and I’m excited to finish it and see how she likes it. Glad she is excited b/c there was a 15 minute period where there seemed to be a bunch of weak thread on the spool and it kept breaking (despite needle changes, so it really was the thread) and I was ready to go all Hulk-Smash all over my sewing room. Thank goodness for the automatic threader when you have to rethread your machine 62 times in 15 minutes, though!
