to announce that my children have chosen COSTUMES!!!!! (Good news for me.)
I gave them the deadline of Monday to choose and then quickly got to work. I have two costumes down (I have been up until all hours of the morning) and one more to go. And the best part of the deal….all of them were made for $15 each or less! (I love budget costumes.)
Aaron decided on the red Ninjago figure (I forget his name, Kai, Cole? One of the two….).
I bought red broadcloth and made basically a pair of boys pajamas for the ninja suit. The shirt is exactly like THIS tutorial from back here, but no buttons and a karate belt to tie it closed in the middle. The pants are red pj pants and I figure I can add buttons to the shirt after Halloween and he will have a pair of real pj’s to wear (which he needs anyway.) The only other thing I bought was some gold rope to go around him like the figurine, and he is drawing the fire-dragon/lion (?) thing for on top of the ropes. Our school doesn’t allow any type of mask or face-thing so he’s decided to spike up his hair like the character and wear black stretchy gloves. Done and done.

You beat my mom on the cutting it close I think! She only had one dress for Homecoming and stayed up all night. But wait…she did make two bridesmaid dresses (very simple look) the week of?? I love the creativity again–witch, ghost, mustache–great! Good luck on whipping them up in time!

I have a five year old boy who makes his Halloween costume decision very early because inevitably it becomes a task beyond belief. His costume when he was almost 3 was a pirate ghost because he wanted to be both. We actually just used white flannel for the body and with the hole cut in the middle we rimmed it with white ribbon. I had a great pirate hat that he wore with it. :)Image here http://www.yandeathome.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html Each year since he has wanted to be a very interesting character. A spiderman dragon, the original wolfman, and this year indiana jones.
I can’t wait to see the ninja costume as I have a feeling this is going to be coming in the future.

When I was finishing up school, I was a nanny for a little while. The 2 1/2 year old boy, who I loved, talked for months about being a crocodile ghost. (Your two year old reminded me of that) So on Halloween that year, I made a crocodile ghost costume and showed up at their door. I made this crazy crocodile mouth, out of a box, covered in croc fabric, with teeth, and attached it to a large chip clip so the mouth could open, I stuck it out of a hole in the sheet over my head (the ghost part) It was SOOOO wierd. But my little friend LOVED it. The whole family didn’t even know what to say!!! I can’t wait to see how your mashup costume turns out!
