This post was first done for Sew Together’s Best Friend Series……
Hi! I am Elizabeth, one half of the sister-in-law duo that makes up Simple Simon & Co. We are two girls who love to going through life sewing, thrifting, discovering the art of homemaking and blogging about all of those adventures.
When Maryanne and Caroline talked about this series, it took me a while to come up with what really my sewing best friend was…..a tool (I don’t use a lot of fancy sewing tools), a person, a book? But I couldn’t really come up with something specific that was “best friendy” enough to share with all of you.
And then while talking to Liz one day, it dawned on me……the THRIFT store really is my best sewing friend. I am being totally serious when I say that 50% of my sewing room stash is all thrifted. Less money, usually really quality items, and vintage finds are my fave!
Here are just a few of the many things in my sewing arsenal that are thrifted…..
I love this book. Especially for the tailoring techniques……and the suit of the front makes me love it even more!
A stash of recently thrifted seam bindings.
More thrifted notions.
Vintage laces and trims.
A bag of zippers that I found last week.
And my all-time favorite thrift store treat….VINTAGE PATTERNS. I recently scored these little boys ones that I am loving (and a girls one peeking through). I basically learned to sew on vintage patterns (WAYYYYY before it was cool), but I have always loved very classic clothing (my whole closet is classic) and especially loved it for children. It is just so timeless and cute.
Thanks Maryanne and Caroline and happy thrifting to all!!!!

VIntage sewing notions, fabrics, and books really are the best…most of what is on my upcoming to do list involves at least one of those items.

The thrift store really is a gem for sewing tid-bits! I absolutely love vintage buttons and trims and its amazing how many little gems I have found at thrift stores! A good tip is, if you can’t see anything on display that you’re after, ask the ladies if they have any stashed away anywhere – 9 times out of 10 when I’ve been looking for patterns, buttons or lace trims and haven’t seen any in the shop, big boxes have been pulled out from behind the counter on my request and i’ve left the store feeling like Christmas!

I’m starting to seek out more vintage kid patterns – don’t want my kids looking like “pimps & hos”. I LOVE the vintage patterns for little boys, because there just isn’t much out there for little guys.
