I have had this pile of fabric sitting on this bench since before July……and it is calling to me. So, I am finally getting to it this week.
You see, liZ and I have had these grand plans for a couple of years now to sew a full “Lookbook” wardrobe for our girls. We have talked about it FOREVER and decided last Spring (before we went to LA for our fabric-shopping trip) that this Autumn/Winter was the year!!!! We were each going to make 5 or 6 coordinating outfits for our girls and put everything together “Lookbook” style.
We had grand plans to sew all summer…….but, ummmm…..needless to say, that didn’t happen. We got caught up in making skirts for Skirting the Issue and other summer fun that our piles of our fabrics have been collecting dust.
BUT. NOT. ANYMORE!!!! (I think there needs to be some fanfare for that…..)
We both made our first cuts this week and we are going to pretend we are back on Project Run and Play again and sew our brains out to get them done so we’ll be able to show you early next month. (I know that’s a longish time—but we each have 5 or 6 outfits to do.)
My “lookbook” is made up of mostly of these fabrics–all in navy blues, grays, shades of lilacs with a splash or two of hot pink.
Which leads me to my other story. Did you all see the episode of Project Runway a couple of weeks ago where Elena comments about Dimitri’s navy blue dress? And how no one wears navy blue anymore? I started laughing my head off (outloud, to myself, at midnight—embarrassing—YES!) because I based my entire “lookbook” on my love for navy blue.
So, be forewarned, you are going to be seeing NAVY BLUE. And I am hoping you all don’t hate it as much as Elena does…..

Elena hates everything. I think navy blue is totally fabulous.

lol – navy blue is a classic. To me it is just another form of black. I love it, and always will!

Elena has a delusion and no idea what she is talking about, I actually have it on good authority (mostly a fashion website I found a bit ago and now can’t remember) that winter and spring 2012-2013 colors are actually navy blue and black together! I have a whole stack of navy and white fabrics that I am waiting to sew into beautiful things (well, I HOPE they will be beautiful! My only problem is I have some fantastic silks that I sort of want to make into clothes for me, but keep feeling like would be cute for Emmie too, so I can’t decide what to do with them!)

I like navy but may I say LOVE it with pink! Why are there not more fabric designers using these two colors in combination in one print. ( I don’t make clothes so it has to be in one print–one of my faves out now Pigs and Flowers in Navy by David Walker-so cute and fun! And I love that Sarah Jane used the navy and pinks/corals in her new line Out to Sea. Bring on the navy! Your stack of fabric will make a beautiful clothes and “lookbook”–can’t wait to see!

Elizabeth it’s so classic, how can she say that? I love navy as much as you so please sew on with navy (and white and pink and grey) and we will all love it.

Great minds…. I, too, have a pile of fall fabrics and plans to sew full wardrobes for my girls. I need to get off my butt and sew together the dress I’ve had cut out for three weeks and then get going. Especially since I have one Halloween costume and two matching Christmas dresses to do! And there’s a deadline on the Christmas dresses so we can do Christmas pictures affordably this year (I have coupons to picture people because all the cheaper places have folded up in my town!)

I’m totally wearing navy blue. Right now. So…Elena obviously doesn’t know what she’s talking about, because I’m stylin’. 🙂
PS: So excited to see your “lookbook!” I’m sure it’ll be fabulous.

Navy blue is my favorite color… and I’ve never seen anyone who looks bad in it. =) I’m looking forward to seeing your lookbook!

I absolutely love this blog!!! Look for it in my email and sometimes it doesn’t get here fast enough, so I have to come check out what you’ve posted. 🙂 I also love navy blue… I’m in love with the Sarah Jane line out to sea with navy blue and pink or coral. It hasn’t been the budget to buy it yet. I saw someone else mentioned that line also…
🙂

I LOVE navy, amd I thought the EXACT same thing about Elena 🙂

Um, navy blue is the best color that ever colored and anyone who says otherwise sniffs glue. It’s always been my favorite and always will be. I recently took stock of my closet and noticed that about 50% of it is navy, 40% grey, and the rest really bright prints that I must’ve bought after having a lot of coffee or something. I’m even in the process of making a navy formal gown. It was the only color I considered!

It’s funny… I didn’t like navy blue for a while because it reminded me of uniforms I used to have to wear. I steered clear of it for several years but I’m falling back in love again. 🙂 It is so versatile and rich!
