Today we have another one of those people who is even lovlier in person than in cyberspace—the super talented and ever fashionable Kate from See Kate Sew.
I’m happy to be here for Skirting the Issue, thanks for having me! see kate sew is my home and creative outlet. I love sewing clothes for myself, for my boy, for any girl that will let me, and making accessories in between. I really love working with pretty fabrics, so today I’m sharing a skirt made with velvet. The fabric pretty much speaks for itself, so it’s a simple skirt with a big impact.
**Materials**
Velvet
Interlock
scrap of printed cotton
**Measurements**
Waistband: 3″ by (waist – 1″)
Skirt piece: desired length by (waist x 1.5)
To start out, gather the top with a baste stitch. The finished width should be just a little bigger than the elastic waistband piece. Also, hem the bottom.
**To make the applique**
1. Draw a shape on the back of the scrap of cotton and place it on the wrong side of the velvet fabric where you want it to go. 2. Stitch over the shape with your machine. 3. Trim the excess fabric. 4. Flip it over to the right side and carefully cut out the shape, making sure you don’t cut through both layers.
Then, stitch up the side seams.
Attach the wrong sides of the waistband and skirt, stretching the elastic as you sew it on.
And you’re done!
These are so easy and way cute! I’m sure you could whip out a whole bunch for the foster girls!
