Did you know that I used to not like children?
I am so ashamed to admit that, but it’s true. I was never the girl at church holding all the babies or offering my babysitting services. Kids just kind of irritated me. Thankfully, God cared enough to gently force children into my life enough to where I am surrounded by them about 98 percent of the time. :o)(Thank you, God.) And through that (and a little maturity) I have learned to absolutely adore them. My husband and I were just talking about how weird it is that I kiss other people’s children constantly. I can’t help it! They are perfect little things, with perfect little hearts and I want to scoop up every one of them and love them for their whole lives.
So when SS&C asked me if I wanted to help spread some awareness about a project for foster children, I was all over that. I have had many friends whose lives involved the Foster Care system and I know that there are often vary different outcomes for those lives. But regardless of their experience, I think any child who has had need of foster care could use a little something special now and then. So I’m so thrilled that Elizabeth and Liz, and now many more of you, have taken notice and taken time to bless those little punkins with that something special.
Oh, yeah, I’m here to share a tutorial, not to babble! At Ruffles and Stuff I’ve shared many a skirt tutorial. (I like things that are easy to make.) Here are some ideas to get your mind going:

For today, to accommodate al sewing levels, I thought I would share the simplest of my skirts, which by the way, is the funnest to wear.
My little Paige has gotten tons of wear out of this one, and it’s still going strong! It’s definitely one of her go-to skirts.
It’s a great skirt for playing like crazy, or just lounging around in. :o)
It has an easy, no-casing elastic waistband, and made with jersey knit, you save time by avoiding the hemming! Super easy. So you can make and send tons!
Let’s get started!
- To begin, cut two rectangles (about 1.5-2 x hip measurement) in slightly different lengths and sew the sides together to make 2 tubes.
- Put the shorter tube over the longer one and pin the tops flush.
- Then pin the skirt layers evenly to a piece of 2″ elastic waistband(just sew the two ends together with right sides facing).
- Sew to the waistband(right sides facing), stretching the elastic to match the length of the fabric as you sew.
All done!

Tip: If you’re intimidated by the elastic stretching part, you can easily attach the skirt by sewing a gathering stitch along the top(through both layers); then pull one thread to gather until the skirt is the same size as the waistband and then sew on.
Oh, and just between you and me, you really ought to make one for yourself, while you’re at it. You could use a little something special once in a while, too. :O)
