I am so excited for summer!
There are lots of reasons for this but not one of the least of them being that summer means showing off little baby arms and chubby baby legs!
(Oh my goodness do I ever love my babies in summer rompers!)
A few weeks ago I pulled out some patterns I’ve been hanging onto from the 50’s and sewed them on up for baby Ruth.
They are plain and simple and I love them.
But then I remembered some pictures I had seen with bibs that were buttoned onto these kinds of jumpers back in the day and I had just had to make some to match.
They were really easy and if you want to make some here’s what to do:
(You can see that besides allowing room for seam allowances I made my bib a little more rounded at the bottom.)
Now trace this pattern onto your bib fabric.
I used the matching fabric for the front of the bib and a washcloth for the back of the bib.
Next you will sew the two pieces right sides together leaving an inch opening so you can flip the bib right sides back out.
Flip the bib.
Iron flat.
Stitch the opening closed when you top stitch around right next to the edge of the bib.
Add any embellishments you would like. (I added Rick Rack.)
Now:
I just used a pencil and drew lines right through the button holes of the jumper and onto the bib.
Make your button holes.
Your done.
Button that bib right onto the buttons of your jumper.
And did I mention making bibs like this makes them reversible?
(Probably not because I didn’t even realize that they would be reversible until I was buttoning it on the first time.)
I kind of like this idea…you can make these bibs to button onto any jumper or dress with buttons.
And I like them with the wash cloth backing.
(My babies make huge messes and with the wash cloths on the back I can use the bib to wipe off their faces and then just chuck bib into the laundry.)
Hooray for washcloths. Hooray for Bibs.
Hooray for summer!

Great idea!! And you can avoid them pulling the bib off. Hmm..I wonder how my son would look in a jumper 😉
